Yeah maybe and Rafa does like to keep it tight at the back. How about just keeping him for left wing or have you got enough players there with Babel, Kewell and the young guy?

Dunno, I guess it depends how well that new guy does on the left when he gets a chance. Is Kewell injured again?

Don't want to be a scally, but I think Kebab may have a point. Rafa is a conservative manager, don't lose before you think about winning. Riise is a wing back and adds a lot going forward (and let's face it scores some great pile driving goals) but maybe Rafa wants his strength to be defending. Heinze loved defending, making the overlap for him was only done under duress...he plays in the centre for Argentina (and therefore doesn't venture forth much).

When Utd score he wouldn't run forward to celebrate because he always felt the team were vulnerable after they scored so he got back ready to defend. Although he scored 2 or 3 for Utd he took greater pleasure in his uncompromising tackling. As LBs these two are the antithesis of each other, couldn't be more opposite.

So maybe that is real insight into Rafa's thinking.

i don't think he will leave and especially to go to villa (no offense) i think he enjoys it at pool and he is very good friends with gerrard.. only thing he may be p***ed at is not getting a new contract when gillet and hicks took over.

How come they never offered him a contract with all of the others who got one?

I thought Riise was a great buy, hope he stays, still a great option out left.
