I saw this thread on skysports.com and thought i'd start it here too. i'm an arsenal fan and i've recently moved to the US so catching games is tough but i find it hard to believe anyone could be faster than gael clichy. I think he ran 100m in 10.6 three years ago when he was 19 or whatever and he defo seems faster now so i'd prob say he does it in 10.3 to 10.4 or something. People have been sayin Agbonlahor and Rommedahl can do it in 10 flat but i think that's bull. You have to train purely as a sprinter and max ur anaerobic fitness to ever get that quick. P.S. it's defo not Ronaldo, doubt he could break 11 secs. he's just got great ball control so he can run with it at pretty much top speed. |

.3 isn't much off 10 seconds flat! That is like proper sprinter speed. Apparently Portsmouth's winger Utaka is meant to be really quick. Martins is fastest on Pro Evo.

100m speed isn't that important in football. it's the explosion of the mark you require. Not seen anyone quicker than Owen a few years back over 10 yards |

I know Martins gets 99 for speed (acceleration too?) in Pro Evo, but i don't think he's quite as quick as Clichy. Some of his runs from defence last season and this season i've never seen anything like, he just flies. |

Yeah setting off is probably the most important thing and changing direction. Yeah Martins gets 99 for acceleration and top speed, fastest player on the game. Not sure how they work it out though or how accurate it is. I've not seen enough of Clichy to judge. They tend not to show him bombing down the wing on MOTD unless he's making an assist or scoring.

definately, being able to run fast is a help but its the initial burst and change of pace that most important. Thats the bit that throws of defenders. Henry used to do it wonderfully but as you say, Owen back a few years was simply magic at it. I lost count how many times he left defenders standing, they just couldnt work out how he changed pace so quick

slightly off topic, but thats what makes Jason Robinson stand out in Rugby. His initial 5 yards is truly phenomenal, but when he's in a long chase, you frequently see others catching him after about 20/30 yards |

Yeah it's mainly about speed over short distances in football. I must say that Torres has really surprised me with how quick he looks for Liverpool. When i've seen him play for Spain he didn't look half as fast. I'm not saying he's the fastest like but he is still quite fast. |

okay so he's not a regulat PL player but Arsenal's only English squad player, Theo Walcott is supposed to be quicker than Henry! surely that makes him faster than Clichy? |

But I doubt anyone is faster with the ball at his feet than Cristiano Ronaldo!

I will have a look at the dribble speeds on Pro Evo for you lol. <_< Hmmm yes there's running without the ball but running with it is a completely different matter. How about Lennon? He looks quite fast. |

I had a look on Pro Evo to see who they think is fastest and Martins is the fastest player on the game without the ball. Only Eto'o comes anywhere near out of all of the players. Ronaldo has the fastest dribble speed/acceleration, closely followed by Ronaldinho and Henry. Of course players like Clichy and Utaka probably don't have proper stats yet with them being fairly unknown. |
