Unless we can define World Class we can not discuss who merits to be called World Class. So what do we think it means?

For me personally, world class is branded around way too much, I consider Zidane to have been the truly world class player i've seen and I don't necessarily think there has been a player as consistently good as him to be branded world class.

but that is just my opinion

Figo,Zidane are what you truely call world class for people to brand the likes of Lampard world class is im my opinion a crime and anyoen who says this must be sent to a dentention camp where they will learn a valuable lesson and then he/she must learn never to commit such a crime again.

Buffon, Cech, Casillas. Thought that keepers should get a mention.

 I think you are taking this too far now Homer!

Lets assess each of the options...

  • Any decent player I (you) choose) - lol Definitely not.
  • Star club player e.g. Lampard. Maybe, but only if they are playing at a top club in a decent league or their performances stand out so much that they would do well at a top club.
  • Noteworthy international player e.g. Healy. Maybe, but only if they are a star club player as well. This doesn't warrant the title "world class" on it's own.
  • Star international player e.g. Riquelme. Another maybe but only if they perform at club level too.
  • Positionally one of the best 2 (or 3) players in the world e.g. Kaka. This could be a winner and takes into account both club and International football.
  • Someone who'd be picked in World's best 11 e.g. Zidane. That would mean only 11 players can ever be considered world class.

But Skid before we can argue who, we should agree on how it is defined. are you saying best 2 or 3 in that position in the World? hence your 3 goalkeepers ....or are you saying that they are in a group of World Class keepers?
