Thanks for the update Flak and you are exactly right in your assessment, that's pretty much how I saw the breakdown. In the end I think most people will come down to the last 3 categories but even here there's quite a wide disparity between being a star/influential international and being good enough for the World's best 11. I also think people choose that category 3 = world class when it's one of their favourites. |

Here's a thing, I do not believe medals define it at all. They may reflect some of their class, but if George Best hadn't played for Utd and never won a competition wouldn't he still be world class? Same for a Johan Cryuff. Football is a team game so teams win medals, with the exception of Maradona in his absolute pomp, individual players do not win tournaments, teams do. So the team may be defined as world class but not necessarily everyone (or anyone) in it. Greece are the defending Euro champs, do they have any world class players? |

I'm with Sense, medals don't really count for much. There's some truly crud players that have winners medals. Although you would expect real top class players to have medals, I don't think it's necessary because the player could choose to stick playing for a club that he loves (Shearer, I know he has a medal with Blackburn btw) or he could be stuck in an International team with inferior players (Berbatov, Shevchenko?). |

no i agree but world class has so much power and meaning that i believe u need everything out of that list plus more courage inspire, and determination to win including medal i.e ambition. like batistuta he realised he needed to win something so moved to roma and justified it |

Jesper Blomqvist won the treble with united, medals theory wont stack up imo. I don't understand why certain players like Gerrard, Lampard etc are considered world class when the clearly are'nt as good as Zidane, why can't they just be labelled a Great player in Gerrard's case |
