Jesper Blomqvist won the treble with united, medals theory wont stack up imo.

I don't understand why certain players like Gerrard, Lampard etc are considered world class when the clearly are'nt as good as Zidane, why can't they just be labelled a Great player in Gerrard's case

why do u guys take the point literally i had enough talkin u guys are actin like my lil bros. im sorry zidane without medals he wouldnt shine as much imo

and quinton furtune.
i think most people recognize top players who won madals over ones who didnt..that why pele is considerd to be the best player ever.

worldclass for me is if you perform at a worldcup, continent championship or chapions legue consistantley. Especially a world cup as your playing against the "best" players in the world at the time. Only a few can be considered.

Ronaldo(brazil)
Zidane
Figo
Rivaldo
Buffon

This is why Maradona and pele considered the best performed at the highest level when it mattered and Entertained the world

i have to agree with manu22. zidane wouldent have gotten the recognition he is getting without the madels he won..without his success with french in 98 and 2000 i doubt real madrid would have went for his service.

Taking away a players medals doesn't take away the quality on the pitch though. At the end of the day it's the performances on the pitch that count a lot more than medals.

I agree with Ricky, the term world class is banded about too much and is too widespread now if players like Lampard (only an example, don't take offence :P)and Zidane fall into the same category.

World class is a far more generic term than it was in the past.

ITs no longer about only 11 possible players who would make up the best team in the world. Its hardly even about the best couple of players for their position. Its more just about a player who's at the top of his game and one of the pinnacle players of his position.

Its thrown about so much now that the boundaries have become clouded.

You cant lump the likes of Zidane in with Scholes, gerrard, Lampard, et al, Zidane should be classed as a Legend of the game, someone who defined a generation. The rest can easily be classed as world class as they are some of the best players around.

I mentioned this in another thread, look at the ananolgy of Cars.

Back in the 80's there were very few Supercars, the likes of the Testarossa and the countach were the few that attained that level. Fast forward 20 years to now and theres an absolute plethora of Supercars about, and many of them have become a bit too affordable.

So people have introduced a new term...the Hypercar.....that gives you cars like the Pagani Zonda, Bugatti Veyron, Koeniggsigg CCX, cars that you simply cannot put in the same bracket as the Porsche 911 Carrera et al......

World class means different things to each person, but we should be careful not to confuse world class with legends and greats of the game....thats a whole different pack of cards!

Zidane won Serie A titles with juve!! Played in a UEFA cup final and two Champions League finals before even playing in a World Cup final! He was signed based on consistent performances with both juve & France over a period of time and cost a world record transfer.

he was good then but when he won the world cup he became unrecognisable and was at such a high level it was scary and i believe winning thwe world cup helped him achieve that status

Well said Jimmy. We should refer to players like Zidane as legends then. :D
