United and Chelsea haven't been frivilous (Liverpool have out spent United in the same period) but any money can be justified by winning the title.

Could be argued that you are no closer now than when he started

we would be a lot further behind i would say if we didnt have him here and had another instead.

My point is that we have improved but probably at the same rate as united and chelsea have and as such remain behind about the same amount. However in comparison to the rest of the league we have improved enough to keep us there.

We have spent a lot of money, but we haven't had single big payments sanctioned anywhere near that of united and chelsea, as such in general we have not managed to buy the right players as we have generally been priced out on them. Daniel Alves is a prime example of that.

Rafa has improved us, thats obvious enough.

Whether he can continue to improve us should surely be the question now which is why I stated in my first post in this thread that I would prefer us to wait till the end of this season or at least closer to the end of his contract before any decision is made on if we should keep him.

He's done well so far, but can he take it up to the next level now, he has to prove that for his contract to be extended. For me that would be by finishing this season at least within shouting distance of the top of the league. Still plenty of time to achieve that and i am personally confident we will

we did finish second, with a team that contained the likes of Anelka, Litmanen, McAllistair, Markus Babel alongside those we know about

Houllier then decided that we could happily lose all of them and bring in Cheyrou, Diao and Diouf.....

Was that an improvement do you think?
