Its those bloody gooners letting the side down again :spank: If they only had 4 or 5 English players the stats would look ok. :cheeky2:

The stats are flawed though. Of the 16 Italians included - I presume Maldini, Totti, Toldo, Brocchi, Favalli, Inzaghi - would be in their list - none of whom are playing International football.

Bonera, Ambrosini, Gilardino, Materazzi, Tonetto would'nt be first choice either! The stats don't prove anything really

Probably Ricky, I think the English stats include Scholes and Carragher, then you have Brown, Carrick and a couple of others who wont start for England.

agreed but i think that there is alot of english talent breaking through at the moment i think in five years the statistics will be very different

I didn't think there was that much talent breaking through at the moment, no more so than in previous years anyway. Other countries like Argentina are still producing more.

I just think more english players need to play first team football in epl. Last week Villadolid in Spain started with 11 Spanish players. I know ther are not one of top teams but the players are getting the experience they need

The Valencia squad who did really well in La Liga last season only had about 4 non-Spanish players in it as well. I think a lot of it is to do with the foreign owners that clubs can no longer give the youth a chance as the pressure on managers to get results is too much. Perhaps the Premiership has become too competitive?

man utd would have more top 4 if they went back to giving there youth a chance instead of shipping them out all the while <_<
See the reason above. It's just not possible to bring the youth through unless they are an extrodinary talent who will fit into the Premiership straight away. Plus we have Foster, Carrick, Hargreaves, Rooney, Ferdinand, Neville, Brown. :cheeky:

Arguably Arsenal let the side down, looking at potential first teams if everyone was fit, United have 5

Scholes Neville Rio Rooney Hargreaves

Liverpool with 3

Carra Gerrard Crouch

Chelsea with 4

Terry Cole Lampard Cole

Arsenal have err, Walcott, on the bench.

And i agree if English players played for foreign teams that would help.

I wish I could say 'I wish we had more English players in the first team' but I don't because they're not good enough yet.

jus a few random points

if i remeber rightly all spanish and italian clubs have restrictions on non-eu players...italy u were only allowed a certain number included on match day squad..and then more recentl, i think they are only allowed 1 non-eu signing a year

spain - i think only allowed 4/5 non-eu players in the squad, hence they are always keen to get players nationalised e.g. baptista, messi

the ecl promotes homegrown talent also, by stipulating certain number of players need to be from the youth system....but this leads to big clubd buying talent at a younger age

wateva the rule,s the clubs will try to overcome them as they are primarily in it for success and money...

Yeah I think that's right Holiday, I heard the other day that Platini is still trying to push the 6 home-grown players rule through for the Premiership.

The price of English players would then increase more. And there would be alot of players not getting games at every club.

I think British players should be the main focus because we are in GB,

anyone can get off a plane and claim to be british so i think it should be brroken down into countires e.g. england so this is right imo

I don't know why people even talk about 'British players' - in football there is no such thing.

thats pretty shocking tbh that Celtic can muster 6 home grown players where as FOUR english sides can only muster 11 together
