Saha spent four years at Craven Cottage, scoring 57 goals in 117 appearances before signing for United in 2004.

And reports from England indicate Hodgson is lining up a ₤4 million bid for the one-time Newcastle hitman.

The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford despite some excellent patches of form, as a string of injury problems – combined with the efforts of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez – has seen him relegated largely to the role of benchwarmer.

The 29-year-old managed five goals from just 17 league appearances this term, and is almost certain to leave the Red Devils this summer as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks to weed out the weak links in his double-winning squad.

West Ham have been linked with the former Metz man, as they seek a standby for the heavily courted Dean Ashton, while Middlesbrough may look to reunite him with fellow Frenchman and top-four castaway Jeremie Aliadiere.

Quality on his day...but doesnt have very many these days. Take the money and run.

Really don't know what's going to happen with him. Fergie is known to be looking at a striker but says nobody would be sold. Wouldn't make sense keeping Saha as well if they bought a new striker and Fo-Manchu arrived.

I really can't see Hodgson going for him, what an injury risk (or should I say certainty) he is these days...

Manchester = 50% United, 31% City, 19% the rest. Manchester is RED. Always has been.

He bought that other old injury prone guy...Litmanen.

It would be just bloody typical if he leaves and his injuries disappear.
