NEWCASTLE are trying to flog Obafemi Martins. The Toon sounded out Liverpool about buying the Nigerian but Martins’ advisors have rejected the idea. However, Chelsea and Arsenal have been alerted by developments. Martins, 23, has a £13million buy-out clause in his contract which Newcastle originally asked to take out in exchange for a £90,000- a-week, five-year deal. But outgoing chairman Chris Mort recently made it clear Newcastle would not pay players ridiculous wages. It seems Martins has now fallen into that category. It is bad news for Michael Owen, who wants to extend his £110,000- a-week deal while Toon expect him to take a wage cut. A Toon insider said: “Oba’s future is uncertain. Newcastle are testing the water to see how strong the interest is. "It’s surprising they would want to sell him but there is a definite shift in the way the club are operating.” |

...and playing in the best league in the world. :P He was linked with Arsenal the other week. He's not worth £90k a week though. |

Just when you think the retards in charge of Newcastle can't be any more incompetent than they already are they come up with this brain wave. I wonder whether these neanderthals actually think ahead. Once they've sold Obafemi Martins what exactly do they plan on doing? Another striker who will either be inferior to Martins or if he's any good will cost them just as much, whilst at the same time (once again) creating instability in the team with constant unecessary chopping and changing. |

Buying Crouch it sounds like if Monu is right. I actually rate Martins as Newcastle's best striker so I don't know what they are playing at.

Maybe they want to use him to fund some other transfers... |

But that'll just set the club back further. And how will they fund another decent striker? I agree flak, he's a top striker and if they had any sense they would ensure the front 2 partnership is the one thing that remains in tact for next season. |

Just a suggestion. Apparently theres not much money available. Probably wont to buy for other areas and settle with Owen, Smith and Viduka. Not that I think its the right option btw... |

Why wouldn't there be much money available? Doubt Ashley would have bought the club if he wasn't willing to put the money in and Big Sam hardly spend a lot. Owen and Martins Treble? I'm not sure if they are the best option to play together. |

Brilliantly put Why aren't Liverpool allowed to buy him? I think he would add good depth to our current lacksture strike option. |

if i was incharge of liverpool he would defiantly be a player hat i would consider buying. can play as a striker off a striker and on the wing as part of a 3 striker attack on the right to cut in on that explosive left foot :P |

Exactly, such a varied style of player as well which would really bolster the squad... An explanation Monu?
