Manchester United have threatened to report Real Madrid to Fifa if the Spanish side continue to pursue Cristiano Ronaldo in such an 'unacceptable fashion'. The Portuguese winger has been regularly linked with a summer move to Real despite United's insistence that he will be staying at Old Trafford. The speculation has intensified in recent weeks with various Real officials speaking about their interest in Ronaldo. United have now expressed their frustration and issued a threat to Real to back off or face possible Fifa action A statement on the club's official website read: "Manchester United has watched with growing irritation the comments attributed to Real Madrid over their alleged desire to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. "The facts are: The player is on a long-term contract and his registration is held by Manchester United. "The player is not for sale. Unsettling "The club will have no alternative but to report Real Madrid to the world governing body, Fifa, if it continues to behave in this totally unacceptable fashion. "These public attempts to unsettle the player are completely against the regulations and the club will not tolerate them any longer. "In addition, the club is certain that they are a distraction for the Portuguese national squad as they prepare for the European Championships. "No-one should be in any doubt that Manchester United will do everything in its power to keep its best players." if the Spanish side continue to pursue Cristiano Ronaldo in such an 'unacceptable fashion'. |

report away, and FIFA will no doubt turn back to them and explain that real madrid have broken no regulations, sure its unfair and unsportsman like but sadly its not against any rules |

True, they have gotten away with it for too long though and it does unsettle players. Everytime those bloody elections come around they are promising their fans signings like Ronaldo, Fabregas, Kaka. |

dwight yorke is a good example of that..... as i say, its not exactly nice but united are certainly not the first team to have had it happen to them, FIFA can do nothing about it though unless they change the regulations themselves |

This lot are a bunch of jokers, they wanna have a word with Ronaldo if they got a problem. If he would just say he was staying, no ifs and no buts, they wouldn't be fussed about what Madrid do, imo. |

I think ppl are underestimating fergie again. I don't believe he was ever interested in lodging a complaint but by making a very public veiled threat he's got what he's wanted which is namely to remind Real Madrid they have a good relationship with Man Utd especially in the transfer market and they will not want to jeopardise that. And its worked, because Calderon is already reported as backing down.... Real president Calderon has tried to cool the row after insisting the club respect United's decision not to sell the Portugal winger. Calderon has moved to reassure the Red Devils that Real will not try to sweet-talk Ronaldo into leaving Old Trafford over the summer. "We have not interfered with Manchester United's contract agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo," Calderon told Sky Sports News. "We're sorry that Manchester United - a club with which we have an excellent relationship - is annoyed with us because Real Madrid have nothing to do with that aspect. "I want to clear this up with him and assure him we are not going to influence any player to break a contractual relationship. "We are not going to start a conflict." Fergie is the master of mind games after all

That's what Calderon has been saying publicy throughout the season though. Real Madrid and Barcelona do that all the time - in public they talk about respecting a player's contract but they have ways of sneakily going about their business and that's what Calderon will continue doing, mind games or not. |
