Spurs Closing On Capel Signing.

Tottenham are said to be on the verge of signing Diego Capel from Sevilla after agreeing terms with the player and meeting his buy-out clause.

The north London club are poised to confirm a deal to bring the left-sided starlet to White Hart Lane having met the 15million euros (£12million) asking price, according to Diario de Sevilla.

A deal may have been wrapped up by now had Tottenham not requested that the two clubs split the resulting tax bill, which totals almost 2.5million euros.

Sevilla were desperate for Capel to sign a new deal that would see his buy-out clause increase dramatically, but disagreements between the player's agents and club president José Maria del Nido prevented talks from taking place.

One of Capel's representatives is René Ramos, brother of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, and he along with Pedro Bravo could push through the deal that would see their client triple his current salary in the Premier League.

Tottenham are believed to have agreed a four-year-deal with the 20-year-old and he is keen to work with Spurs boss Juande Ramos once again after rising to prominence under him in Spain.

Capel's buy-out clause before he had played 40 league games for the club was 12million euros and that was when the Premier League outfit first made contact and put forward their contract proposal to Ramos and Bravo.

 Same as last season then.

How good is this Capel guy?

Trouble is all of their signings are coming from abroad so they will need to bed in straight away.

He's very highly thought of to be fair. Lot of cash spent on him and modric though.

They always spend loads of money in the transfer window.

They should make a bit back through sales of the rubbish like Kaboul and Poo Yung Lee.

Don't think the deal's been done tbh. There's not a single quote in the skysprts article, but here's setanta's report on it...

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido claims Tottenham have not met Diego Capel's valuation, although he has revealed an interest in Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos is a known admirer of Capel and is expected to make a firm bid to bring the exciting midfielder to White Hart Lane.

"From the discussions with his agents, I have no news if Tottenham are going to pay his buy-out clause, which is €15,6 million (£12.3 million),” Del Nido told Sevilla ABC.

"And I ask: Would a foreign club use the clause in Spain?

"Clubs have asked for three or four players from our squad, but we do not put them on the market.

"f there are players with low buy-out clauses who could leave, as it happened with [Seydou] Keita [and Barcelona], the club can come and see me on Tuesday."

Del Nido's comments are in reaction to reports in England that Spurs have agreed to meet the buy-out clause and discussed a four-year contract with the player's representatives.

Capel would be real coup for spurs and as MT says he is exactly the player they need. He could do much better tho...

You think he's Champions League quality then. Liverpool?

I noticed there weren't any quotes in the SS article again.

Isn't Capel better than Riera though?

Has Gilberto not settled at left back or something Anvil? They have O'Hara and some other young kid that can play there.

Gilberto's supposed to be good, as well as Gunter who's also being highly rated.
