Mancini received his marching orders following a meeting with President Massimo Moratti on Tuesday afternoon, however until now there had still not been any official confirmation from the club.

The Italian press has gone into overdrive with reports and rumours as to what happened in that meeting, and what the exact reasons were for Mancio being shown the door.

Some sources have claimed that the meeting lasted one minute, while others have said that Mancini was furious with the decision and that he stormed out of the room, leaving on bad terms.

Inter, who earlier today rubbished reports in the press of a blazing row, have now finally confirmed Mancini’s dismissal.

“F.C. Internazionale would like to announce that Mr Roberto Mancini has been exonerated from office as coach of the first team, particularly as a consequence of the statements made by the technician in the aftermath of Inter-Liverpool on March 11, 2008,” a statement on the club's website reads.

Mancini announced after the game at San Siro that he would be leaving at the end of the season, only to reverse his decision less than 24 hours later.

Harsh on Mancini after winning 3 title, they should back him for the CL surely. Only question now is when Jose will be announced :S.

One league was given to them becuase of Match fixing and the other one Ac milan had a 10 point deduction so this is the first one he won without something happeneing to main rivals. Im not sure how he has done in the C/L. Yah i think its just a matter of time before he gets named as Inter boss.

No question it will be Jose, the question is Drogba, Lampard, Carvalho?

Could add Essien to that list Monu. Cant see Lampard leaving though. The others are very possible.

Dont think they will pay the 35 mill Chelsea want well that is the what they told Madrid they would have to pay not sure if it was true tho, Drogba Carvalho and Lampard were all linked in the paper today for a combined 35 Mill.

They've always underachieved imo, and nearly lost the title too. They've been made to look good by the lack of quality in the teams around them.

I wonder why he's so furious about being sacked, surely he knew it was coming. Unless he was persuaded by Inter to reverse his decision to resign at the end of the season only to be sacked by them anyway

I personally don't think they'll do any better under Mourinho. Next season the likes of Juventus and AC Milan will improve and reclaim their rightful claim to fight for the title. The benign era of the Nerazzurri is over!

Well Jose will only go there if theres plenty of money available imo. And Ibra is on his way out by the looks of things so Drogba may go. Essien would be fantastic for any team, and if Jose comes in I can see him wanting to leave.

Apparently they asked him to stay after he resigned and he agreed

I think he will get alot of money but if he could get them 3 for 35 mill i would rather them 3 than Essien Possibly the best CB in the world Along side Rio Lampard consistantly scored 15 -20 goals and Drogba it depends what mood he is in

 Thats gotta be the ultimate stab in the back then!

Don't think Crespo will remain either if Mourinho comes in, he was shipped out from Chelsea by him.

i think the right choice was made. mancini have brought them the far he could have and a new manager is needed. im not sure bringing mourinho is a godo idea if he want to bring drogba or lampard with him. inter need to invest in younger players then those two

Last night the agent of Roberto Mancini confirmed that his client had been sacked as coach of Inter, and that his replacement would be Jose Mourinho.

Now the Gazzetta dello Sport has reported some brief words from Mourinho, in which he reveals his excitement at the prospect of this new challenge.

"I can’t wait to get started,” said the Portuguese tactician.

The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has been out of work since he left Chelsea by mutual consent last September. Mourinho is said to be particularly looking forward to the renowned tactical side of the Italian game, and reportedly confided to friends:

"The first day of training will be beautiful. To be able to play and work on tactics, with less gym, less travelling, and less monotonous. I want to change the traditional method of preparation,” he vowed.

The 45-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract, earning a staggering €9 million per year.

Reports say that Mancini got a €30m pay off.
