Fabregas: I'm Staying And I Want The Prem

Fabregas, 21, has long been linked with a move back to hometown club Barcelona but, with the Catalans already in possession of several midfield playmakers in his mould, arch-rivals Real Madrid have in fact shown more interest in the player.

Rumours of his departure have never fully subsided, and the recent switch of midfield partner Mathieu Flamini and what seems to be the impending departure of Alexander Hleb after the Gunners' late season collapse only added fuel to that fire.

However, the Spanish international has time and time again pledged his future to his coach - if not the club - insisting he will be there as longer as Arsene Wenger (who he has described as a father figure) remains at the club.

Adding to his list of reasons to stay, he today included the fact he has yet to win the Premier League. Having joined in 2003, he was officially an Arsenal player at just 16 years of age in the Invincibles season, in which Arsenal romped to Premier League glory, unbeaten the entire league campaign. However, as he did not make a single appearance in that season, he did not get a winners' medal and it is not part of his honours list as a player (which currently consists of just the 2004 Community Shield and the 2005 FA Cup.)

So, it appears that Fabregas will not only be at the club as long as Wenger, but that he is unlikely to leave until he has won the Premier League.

"I will stay at Arsenal," Fabregas told The Sun. "My coach asked me and I told him he had my confidence.

"I'd love to win the Premier League and I am one of those players who fight for what they want until they achieve it."

Future

Added spice to this story comes with the recent revelation that the Arsenal boss has been heavily involved with recent affairs at troubled French outfit Paris Saint-Germain.

The capital club barely avoided relegation in the league this season, and a League Cup triumph and French Cup final did little to ease those woes.

Wenger played an advisory role in finding a new chairman, Charles Villeneuve, and would not rule out the possibility of joining the club as a director in the future, though he underlined that his contractual obligations meant he would be at Arsenal until at least 2011.

“My future is at Arsenal, where I am under contract until 2011, then we will see," he told Le Parisien.

“If I am asked for advice…It can happen that clubs ask for my opinion, I answer to who I want.”

Good news for you Arsenal fans, looks like he'll be staying for a long time trying to win the Premiership :fishing:

Hmmm. I just don't have faith in these players anymore. Why is Cesc giving us a reason to not want to win the league? :D

Maybe it's different with him because he's been at Arsenal for so long. At least we all know he will leave someday.
