Fernando Torres A £4million Pay Hike

ya best protect ya neck
LIVERPOOL plan to give Fernando Torres a £4million pay hike.

The £800,000-a-year rise for the Spanish hitman is designed to see off interest from Chelsea.

Incredibly, Torres actually took an £800,000-a-year pay CUT when he joined the Kop outfit from Atletico Madrid last summer.

Torres was also entitled to a £3million slice of his £21.5m transfer fee — but was so desperate to move he waived it.

Torres was told his deal would be reviewed after one season. If all went well, his pay would be bumped up to what he was earning in Madrid for the remaining five years of his contract.

The hitman bagged an astonishing 33 goals and will now see his wages jump from £74,000 a week to £89,000 a week.

SunSport understands that Margarita Garay, who represents Torres, was in Liverpool from May 14-16 to meet with Anfield officials.

A source close to Torres said: “There has been a meeting between Fernando’s people and Liverpool.

“It was very amicable and set the tone for what should be a straightforward negotiation.”

maybe he was just playing good to get his wages up :fishing:

Sounds like it was pre-agreed but is being sold as Liverpool putting in defensive measures.

aye i agree with that, I wouldnt be surprised if it was put in place in case he didnt perform as well as expected, after the fun and games we have had in the past with strikers (kuyt, Morientes, Baros, Diouf). I would fully expect them to be a bit more cautious and have put this in place. Now we know he's worth it (loreal advert in the waiting) we'll pay him
