The French Grand Prix has been included on the provisional Formula 1 calendar for 2009, which was released by the FIA on Wednesday. The schedule for next season was unveiled following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris, with 19 races – one more than this year – included. The race in Abu Dhabi is the new addition for 2009 with the inaugural event given the honour of hosting the season-finale on November 15, with Brazil moved back to the penultimate round. However there is set to be no grand prix in the United States for the second year running, despite Indianapolis bosses previously indicating their wish for the race to make a swift return. While the calendar as a whole features only minor changes in order from this year, the British Grand Prix has been moved ahead of the French event to a June 21 date. Turkey has also been shifted back to the August slot it had held before the event was moved to May for this season. And for the second successive year the season will run from March until November, although the campaign’s start date in Australia will be two weeks later than was the case in 2007. Provisional 2009 F1 calendar 29 March Australia 5 April Malaysia 19 April Bahrain 10 May Spain 24 May Monaco 7 June Canada 21 June Great Britain 28 June France 12 July Germany 26 July Hungary 9 August Turkey 23 August Europe (Valencia) 6 September Italy 13 September Belgium 27 September Singapore 11 October Japan 18 October China 1 November Brazil 15 November Abu Dhabi |
