He'd also be crazy to pass up managing his country.

I'm not too sure about that Stacie, i think the lure of managing Utd or any other top club would be greater than managing the National side. I think thats why Wenger has never managed the French, or Fergie the Scottish. Plus realistically if he did take the Portugal job,he is ruling himself out of the Utd job and depending on how the new manager does im not sure he would ever get the chance again.

Agreed that's his dilemna. Portugal job now or Utd job later. Even if Utd one is not guaranteed, he knows it would be impossible if went for Portugal.

I wouldnt say it would be impossible, sense. Fergie will leave in two/three years, whos to say Queiroz will still be in the job then?

Yeah but not all managers are the same. He may be more into the idea of managing his country than Ferguson or Wenger have been. Also, Queiroz wouldn't be leaving a manager's job, he'd be leaving the possibility of one in a few years.
flak and gary love stacie and weep sorrowful tears when she's not around

If he's been a success then he'd still be there, if he'd failed he won't be, but also Utd wouldn't want him.

Personally I expect SAF to stay 2 more years max and I think he'll want Carlos ashis right hand man in that time. Leave now and Utd would give up on him. He's only in the running now because he's there. If he wasn't there Utd's trawl for a manager would echo Chelsea's recent one,... the very biggest names!

But wouldnt you rather, if he was to fail, to fail at Portugal and not United though?

Following his success with the Portuguese national youth teams, Queiroz was appointed senior national coach in . Following a record of 14 wins in 31 matches,[3] Queiroz coached his last national team game in 1993 and left somewhat accrimoniously, famously declaring "there is a need to sweep away the dirt in the Portuguese football Federation".

Yes he did manage Portugal! came up through the ranks managing U20's eventually making senior manager. Credited for recognising and developing the talents of Figo, Rui Costa etc.

Managed RM for a year and rumours abound that they played great football under him but that he had pressure from the club president to play star players. He also recommended they buy a young player called Pepe a star for the future at CB for €2m, the president refused saying that defenders don't sell shirts! Ironically RM later bought this same player for €30m!

Queiroz is class, I think, I'd give him the first go after SAF personally.

 Typical Madrid. They don't buy cheap players as a rule.

Yes maybe they said about him being a future star is that's all well and good but we want him to go up in value so we can show our fans we only buy the best! it will only cost us about €28m more or 15 times what we could get him for now. :)
