After the likely transfer of Carson to Stoke for £3.5 million, the likely transfer of Paul Robinson out of Spurs, Kirkland playing for Wigan and England's reliance on David James who will be 40 at the next world cup what does the future hold for the goalkeepers in this country. Will we NOT have a world class goalie until an english keeper plays regularly for a team playing in the Champions League? Able to be tested at the highest level against the best players in the world and gaining the experience of winning at the highest level? I'm thinking of world class goalies like Casillas, Buffon, Cech, VDS, Lehmann to name a few who all play (or have played) in the Champions League and play for their countries. Looking at the goalies of the top 7 clubs in the table last season, United (dutch), Chelsea (czech), Arsenal (spanish), Liverpool (spanish), Everton (USA), Villa (USA), Blackburn (USA). How can we expect the english goalies to step up to international football when they have very little or no experience of playing at the highest level? |

Step forwards Ben Foster.
It's possible that he could be United's number 1 when VDS finally retires. However, Carson was rated up there alonside Foster at the start of last season and look at him now.You forgot Green at West Ham who never gets picked. |

I'm not bothered about who's getting picked for england. My point is that there is a gulf in the standard of goalkeeping between english goalkeepers and those of other nations, and maybe the reason for that is lack of experience playing club football at the highest level, ie CL |

What about that guy at Peterborough or something that was in the last squad? ![]() And tbf there are some England keepers playing for the better clubs. Green, Hart at City who will be playing in Europe next season. Foster may also be United's number one. |

I think we need the top 6 sides having predominantly english goalkeepers. I might be wrong but I think there are more American goalies in the prem than English ones, and defintely more American in the top 7. WTF is all that about? |

Same with English strikers who are few and far between too. Trouble is, I don't think that any of the goalkeepers mentioned are good enough for the top 4 to start off with. It's not like any of them are likely to venture out of England into foreign lands either. |

Treble, there is a gulf in standards between English players and the rest of the world period. |

You think there's a gulf in standard between German players and Engish players? I don't, but thats a different debate. Outfield players who play for england generally come from the best teams in the prem, the same can't be said of goalies. |

No, but Germans have much better team spirit. Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, France, Netherlands, and Spain all have more talent than England. |

Did you put Spain twice for emphasis because they won Euro 2008 and we've relied on them in the past to fail on the international stage too? (Just say yes)
