Hes supposedly to be offered a 5 year deal worth 39 million, around 150,000 a week to make him the highest paid player in the premiership

So why did Chelsea leave it this late?

Wow, he isnt worth anywhere near that much...

Not now, but in his prime years only a smackhead would deny his world class status.

They've got no perspective now. You'd think they needed £140k to support their families.

Maybe it's not that but he's looking at who is earning more than him at the club, say Shevchenko for instance. I dunno if Shevchenko does earn more but Lampard will be taking it into account relative to what others earn.

I thought it was the length of the contract not the money that was in dispute??

From what i have heard, we havent moved from the £135k 4 yr deal. FL agent has been asking for approx £170k 5 yr deal. He was offered the £135k on a 5 yr last yr and turned it down. How much money do they need lol. He also earns about £3.5m per yr from outside sources. He is already on £130k, same as Ballack and Sheva.

Chelsea are caving in on earnings all over. It appears they are desperate to keep their squad on huge slaries. Without RA they'd soon be bankrupt and it's laughable about being in profit in a year or two. Kenyon is no great negotiator, he's just caving in.

And btw this is bad for football all round because it just raises expectations, not just at the top but throughout the PL.
