It must be about 200 chances now. These dosey managers need to wise up to him. He doesn't deserve to play professional football in the Premiership. |

keegan was never going to drop him, keegan is too soft first off and second off he cant really afford to be dropping a premiership class midfielder... he would be cutting his own nose off |

Has Barton really been that good for them when he's played though? More trouble than he's worth imo. |

Trouble is, what can KK do. Cant sell him (who would want him).......dont even know whether they could fire him without paying out contract. Only option is to support him and see if he can get his head in gear. |

Agreed and Newcastle are hardly splashing the cash so they can't aford to get rid, which is what should happen. |

He didn't go to prison til the season ended I don't think. Prison was Barton's summer holiday.

They should sack him, they shouldn't have paid him whilst he was in prison either. Trouble is he has a contract (you know one of those things that protect these poor slaves - but not their 'owners') so they have to be careful. That said I'm sure there must have been a clause in it about what they could do if he was jailed (the Dabo incident was hanging over him when they bought him). The truth is he's an 'asset' (wierd choice of word given who we're talking about) or rather a financial asset, he has some value to Newcastle. If they fired him, for sure some other club would come along and give him a contract, there's always somebody who'd take the gamble, particularly if he was effectively 'free'. The only way would be for the FA to revoke his licence but they'd have to compensate Newcastle and probably face court action from Barton's advisors. So the truth behind giving him a 'final' chance (let's not pretend it's a 2nd chance) is Keegan really has no other option. If Ashley was buying new players and backing Keegan, then maybe they could dump him, but it appears finance and playing options take precedence over morality, but are we surprised?

He is a club/company "asset"...............cost x no of million, no company (except Chelsea in Mutu & Bosnich) throw away assets worth millions. |
