Fiorentina Coach: Cesare Prandelli - Regarded by many as the best coach in Italian football today. Last season: 4th in Serie A Signing of the summer: Alberto Gilardino - He may have struggled horribly at Milan, but is back with the coach and strike partner with whom he made his name Prospects: Signed well and kept their key player Mutu, alot will depend on how the side cope with the demand of Champions League football and Serie A. Predection: 6th Inter Milan Coach: Jose Mourinho - All eyes are on the Special One and how he will cope with the demands of Serie A. Last season: 1st in Serie A Signing of the summer: Mancini - the Brazilian winger will bring vital and much needed flair. Prospects: A defensive crisis has plauged Mourinho through pre-season, however it will be upfront where Mourinho must find a balance with the enigmatic Zlatan and the new golden boy of Italian football Mario Balotti. Champions League succes is Moratti's goal. Forecast: 2nd Juventus Coach: Claudio Ranieri -Won plaudits for the top 3 finish last season, but he has to prove that he is capable of winning silverware this season. Last season: 3rd in Serie A Signing of the summer: Amauri - The Palermo marksman was arguably the biggest transfer swoop of the summer and should be a goal machine this year Prospects: An inability to sign a creative midfield player may cost Juve, they certainly have the steel but have they the guile? Champions League football may take it's toll on league performances. Prediction: 3rd AC Milan Coach: Carlo Ancelotti - Carletto enters his eighth season in the Milan job keen to eradicate the memories of his worst campaign to date. Last season: 5th in Serie A Signing of the summer: Ronaldinho - He may have gone off the boil in the last 18 months, but he is still a rare talent and has a point to prove that he is not finished yet Prospects: They have signed well injecting a new lease of life into the old guard. With the last 3 balon d'or winners in their side there will be plenty of goals, if the defence remains fit then the strongest squad in the league, without Champions League football to distract should go very close to winning the title. Prediction: 1st Napoli Coach: Edy Reja - A close friend of Fabio Capello and a highly respected Coach, Reja has guided Napoli all the way back from Serie C. Last season: 8th in Serie A Signing of the summer: Christian Maggio - The wide man enjoyed an excellent season at Sampdoria last term and is close to Lippi's Italian Squad. Prospects: An array of young talent including Hamsik & Lavezzi, Napoli are closer to bringing back the Maradonna era than the recent descent down the leagues, beat all top 4 sides at home last season, if away form picks up will challenge for 4th Prediction: 5th Roma Coach: Luciano Spalletti - Has created an entertaining a highly effective side and is regarded as one of Europe's best coaches. Last season: 2nd in Serie A Signing of the summer: Julio Baptista - Must rediscover the form he showed at Sevilla to be an asset to the side. Prospects: Unable to compete financially may cost the side a title challenge, the Champions League final next may in Rome will be the priority of the Roman trio of Aquilani, De Rossi & captain Totti. Prediction: 4th Sampdoria Coach: Walter Mazzarri - The man charged with endeding a spell of underachievement did so in style with an impressive 2007-08 season Last season: 6th in Serie A Signing of the summer: Bruno Fornaroli - The man nicknamed 'The Tuna' was hot property and could bag some vital goals if he adapts to Italian football. Predictions: Steady if not spectacular progress is expected and if the clubs figure head Antonio Cassano maintains last seasons form another successful season is in store Prediction: 7th Other sides to challenge for Uefa cup spots should be Palermo, Udinese and Lazio Relegation candidates: Siena, Reggina, Lecce, Bologna and Catania |
