But hammers have already been punished and taking points of them now wont help Sheffield. The whole point is that Sheffield say they went down unfairly, so any action by the FA against WH wont help Sheffield. Its a mess and glad I dont have to make the ruling lol. Whatever decision is made will be appealed by own of the teams lol.....................could still have a long time to run.

i am pleased for sheff utd but i though this was all done and dusted. i agree whu should of got points deducted at the time and that would of stopped all this carry on.

also i think it should be up to the fa or premier league to pay the compensation and not whu. they are the ones that made the mistake and whu have already been punished by them.

This is a very salient point. Procedurally it is the FA who made the mistake, they should have deducted points at the time, allowing Sheffield utd to spend at least one more season in the PL on big money.

I agree SU should get the money, but WHU don't have any, the Icelanders are running back to Reyjavik faster than something that runs very quickly, they were selling players in the Summer because they couldn't afford to pay them AND of course their sponsor XL has gone bust. WHU doubtless will be unable to pay, or to do so would send them into administration and the FA won't want to do this.

The gutless FA made the wrong decision at the time, and although WHU did break the rules it was the FA who got their sentence/penalty wrong.

SU won't get the money.

The thing that got to me was at the time of the original tribunal, its chairman said that he felt sorry for West Ham's fans and that played a part in his decision not to deduct points. How can feeling sorry for the fans of a club change a ruling???????? and if it could, shouldnt he have felt just as sorry for the Sheffield fans. The FA bottled it, pure and simple. The only choice they had was to replace WH with Sheffield or extend the PL to 21 teams for one season. Trouble is, they left it to late to do either (prob on purpose). By time decision came through, the leagues had alredy started so there was no going back.

You were right, it was a gutless decision, they didn't want to be responsible for relegating WH, but at the time thought they'd probably go down anyway.

It was a joke; The media knew that Tevez and Mascherano were owned by a 3rd party from day one! It just wasn't investigated until after Mascherano had been sold. Later when Utd tried to cut the same type of compromise as the FA had approved for Liverpool it was rejected so a different solution had to be found and it took forever to be agreed.

Remember that WHU 'proved' to the FA that they owned him from a certain point onwards when they showed them a fax to Joorchabin saying his interest in the player has been formally ended, (until the end of the season). The FA accepted that!!! We know that WHU is only borrowing these players, but you can't own them so from today we will, even though we haven't paid you for them, okay?..yeah..fine.

Prob right about expecting them to go down, they won last 4 games if i remember including M United away for the last game of season. As i said, its not a ruling i would like to make. Still dont know what my ruling would have been. Sheffield beat Hammers at home 3-0 towards end of season, losy to Hammers 1-0 near start of season, Tevez was on a sub, but only for 20 mins and Hammers scored the only goal in 1st half, but he did score winner against United on last day.

I didn't know WHU were poor but if there was anyone smart at that club, they'd have been putting money aside just in case it came to this.
I feel sorry for Sheffield as a relegated club because if it wasn't them, it would have been some other club. But how far can you determine the effect one player had on the whole season?

Read earlier that part of the reason they were selling players this summer was to put a sum aside for this. But who knows how true it is.

Well, that would be the smart thing to do. WHU don't appear to have spent great amounts so the money they earned last season and this season should go some way to paying Sheffield United.
