Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he is stunned by Uefa president Michel Platini's attack on him in an interview with a French newspaper.

Platini, the head of European football's governing body, fired a couple of broadsides at the Arsenal manager during a frank interview with Grenoble daily Dauphine Libere.

The former France international slammed Wenger for having a business mentality rather than a football one.

And he also tore into the Gunners boss for calling for the introduction of video replays to rule on questionable refereeing decisions.

Wenger has been taken aback by Platini's criticisms.
Stunned
"I am stunned by the aggressive content of Platini's words," Wenger told L'Equipe."I am effectively a supporter of video assistance for referees, like all coaches, and I believe Uefa have an important role to play in this.

"I am for sporting justice and Uefa must be the guarantor of it."

Wenger added: "I am a supporter of good management of clubs, for financial equilibrium.

"And Uefa must equally support this idea. I am fighting for the future of the game and of football.

"I don't see why Uefa should take umbrage at ideas that are different from their own."

In Platini's interview with Dauphine Libere, Wenger's name was raised during a question about the introduction of video technology.

Blast
Platini replied: "I like to talk about football, him (Wenger) about business. We must stop with Wenger and all that."

Platini then said he hoped video assistance would never come into football, adding: "It would make me happy that Arsene Wenger never sees it."

Later in the interview, Platini again targeted Wenger when asked about his thoughts on Romanian side CFR Cluj's unexpected victory over Roma in the UEFA Champions League last week.

"That is what makes football so great," Platini said. "It is what people like Wenger do not want, little clubs beating the big clubs, because they want their business."

What is this good for??? in any way.... Now I have defended Platini often (even if I don't like the guy at all) But there's simply no excuse for this kind of Bullsh*t <_<

Wenger works hard to make sure we make a decent profit and still compete i'm not suprised he is always complaining about finances becuase can you say the other top clubs make as much of an effort? I don't think they do so i say if you work hard to do something you have the right to bitch about it if your one of few doing it

FIFA is a totally forked up organisation. U have Sepp Blatter who is meant to be so bent that he makes Del Boys guarantee seem kosher. He re-elected unopposed for another four years in 2007 even though only 66 of 207 FIFA members nominated him. That less than a 1/3rd of governing bodies. If u believe the stories, they were handing out bags of cash in the hotel the night before the election. How can a guy with NO experience in football end up running FIFA?????????????

Platini at least has experience in football as a great player and a unsuccesful national manager (got France to EC, but got them knocked out in 1st round), but as he has never been a club manager he should shut the fork up about things he doesnt undertsand. Wenger has done wonderful things as gooners manager, competed with United for over a decade with less than a 3rd of the budget. Sounds more like sour grapes to me, doing something that Platini prob wishes he could of done but hasnt.

Wenger has obviously become too anglocised for Platini.

Thought the only thing Platini wouldn't like about Wenger would be the stealing of youth players from around the world policy Arsenal have. we know he's anti that policy.

But Platini is against video evidence! what! on the grounds that the right decision might mean a big club winning. Don't small clubs ever have a decision wrongly go against them?.....personally I think this happens much more.

And much as we laugh at Reading's bizarre, non-goal goal, a video replay would have sorted that!

Still cant understand why the governing bodies and the likes of Pratini r against video replay. It wouldnt take any longer that it currently does. Most major sports in the world use it from American football, Cricket, Horse Racing, both forms of Rugby...............down to every single event in Olympics. But still the lords and masters of the biggest and richest sport in the world refuse to even consider it.

Well there's tradition and the fact that almost certainly the whole rule book would need re-writing.......almost every rule except goals are pre-fixed with "If, in the referees opinion blah blah" so the referee is the only arbiter, if he says it's offside it is, whether the facts back that up or not.

Wouldnt effect the rule book. The 4th official would tell the ref what re saw...........still be refs opinion. In the same way he consults the linesmen, he would be able to consult 4th offical who has the use of video replay.
