bar a few teams (madrid, liverpool, newcastle?) it seems the number 9 (leading striker) is because used less and less often. lets look at united for example- They have FOUR main attacking players who all interchange positions and they play with no leading striker who plays on the shoulder- they use roonye, ronaldo, tevez and now berbatov. They have been successful in the past with having no leading striker with winning the premier league and champions league. my points is also shown on the awards for best players in the world for the last 3 years- kaka, messi and ronaldo. they score as many goals as a leading strikers but are not it. Barcelona are similer. If you look at them they also change positions with their 3 attackers. milan, roma(who first introduced the system with tottI). Now it seems arsenal are following a similer style. LOok closely at their games. adebayor ends up giving the crosses and wide areas of the pitch. personally it could be considered this new tactic which is fading out leading strikers is more difficult to defend against and they all have been successful when employing this tactic. barcelona did the double, ac milan won the cl and united did the double. thoughts? |

i meant after henry left i thought arsenal were doing to the normal number 9 type striker infact i would say the leading ones left are van nistelroy and torrres, you dont see their teams changing positions for them to go on the wing for a little while etc villa is another i suppose |

just watch the teams play united 4 attacker change positions through out and get goals from anywhere and do you think this is easier for defenders to defence against 1 or 2 leading strikers than 4 players changing constantly something that jamie car said after the arsenal game when we drew about how difficult than normal it is when playing against arsenal because they all keep changing positions etc roma have tottie and 3 players behind him and they all change barce do the same with 3 front men |

Chicken or egg. There is much more interchanging up front than there used to be and it has been effective but is this the cause of the leading striker's demise or because of it? Certainly there are a lot more great support strikers atm than leading strikers. |
