He was close to getting it last year I remember. Even the press/media aren't linking him with the job this time! |

He only announced he wasn't interested (on MOTD as pundit) after not getting the manager's job. Ashley had wanted him as Keegan's number 2 if i remember correctly but Shearer turned that down. It was all media speculation as nothing was ever confirmed but what's different now is that even the media aren't linking him to the job this time. |

Shearer said he couldn't do it last time because of his TV commitments...i'm sure he could have gotten out of them if he tried though. Newcastle manager is toughest job in the league by the looks of things. |

Shearer's a smart one. He knows his legend status could be tainted if he turned out to be a crap manager. Keegan's smart too, he escaped while managing to turn most of the anger onto the manager

It's risky, surely the first thing any owners will want to do is bring back Keegan? |

I thought O'Leary just wanted it until Ashley sold up? I don't know if Keegan is the answer for Newcastle, the fans might moan if anybody else is made manager and they wont give them any time. |

Its a legend killer, managing a team where u were considered a god as a player. Look at likes of Hoddle and even KK in his 1st spell at Newcastle. Has any manager in England repeated the success he had as a player at a club as the manager? |

Didn't want to start another thread but this is why NUFC are a joke, or at least the amateurs in charge are. When Joe Kinnear landed at Newcastle airport on Friday night he spent 10 minutes wandering around arrivals looking increasingly lost and forlorn. With no one from St James' Park having bothered to collect him, Kevin Keegan's interim successor eventually headed outside alone before joining the queue for a taxi. |
