Roy Keane has warned he may walk away from Sunderland should personal abuse from the club's fans continue. Keane came under fire at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday after his Black Cats outfit struggled to overcome lowly Northampton on penalties in the Carling Cup third round. The former Manchester United midfielder opted to give some of his fringe players a run out and they struggled as the League One outfit nearly caused a major upset. Keane, who is out of contract next summer, has no problems with fans venting their views on the team's display, but has stated he will not tolerate any abuse aimed in his direction. "I have no problems with fans expressing their opinions," he told reporters. Zero tolerance "But one or two had a go pretty much towards myself - and that's something I won't tolerate. That's something I've not come into the job to accept again. "I appreciate criticism, constructive criticism, which I'm going to receive. Trust me, my biggest critic is myself. "Yes, I got my team wrong, definitely. I should have gone with one or two younger players. But abuse like that is something I just won't tolerate. "Listen, in football, everyone has short memories. There was some idiot about three or four weeks ago having a go and you remember these things. "You shouldn't, because we've got some bloody brilliant supporters, but you always remember the idiots." What a big girl!! grow up roy cant take critisism then your in the wrong job this is not exactley what i expected from keane to cry like a sissy girl what does he expect he's spent BIG money talking about 70million quid in two seasons!! i think fans have a right to boo a team that just about scrapes through |
| According to my calculations the problem doesn't exist | |

Been blown way out of proportion imo. Don't think he'd even consider leaving at the minute. |

Fickle fans, maybe they should remember what he's done with Sunderland since becoming manager. You'd think they'd be singing his praises... |

i personally think that he hasn't done all that much tbh the season he took over they had just been relegated the season before that they had won the championship by a mile so the side he inherited was a very good championship side but awfull prem side. To take them up was no real achievment really (maybe a bit harsh) but the side was low on confidence not ability. And with the money he has spent since being in the prem i.e 70 million i think they should have done better last year and so far this |

They were losing at the start of the season before he took over, bottom of the championship and they ended up winning it. First season back their only realistic ambition was not to get relegated. The thing is tho loyal we criticise clubs and fans who think they should be getting in the top 6 etc when they don't accept they're simply not good enough. What do these minority of sunderland fans expect? I don't think the fans have any cause to criticise him imo. |

No real basis to criticise him, I agree with, but coming out and publicly saying this is ill-advised, IMO. One thing a manager has to develop is a thick skin. |

It's nearly Christmas

Just shows how things can change in 1 result for some people. I do think that Keane is over-reacting a bit though...it's part of the job these days. |
