The uefa cup is set to be revamped into a competition similer to the champions league. The main reason behind it is so it gains a better reputation and respected by big teams around europe. |

It'll never be as respected simply because of the difference in the quality of teams that compete i nthe two competitions. |

It's just a money generator for the second tier. Only teams from England, Italy and Spain can win the CL but they somehow believe that this will be more open. Currently they have those 5 team groups where you play two teams at home and two away. Therefore slight advantage to be gained by playing stronger opposition at home. A group stage does away with that but honestly, who's really going to be watching? The other year Bolton qualified for UEFA cup and the crowd went barmy. Yet when the competition came round they played a weaker team in Europe (because points in PL were more important) and not many turned up to watch anyway. Crowds will flock to this like they do for the Carling Cup. |

while the champions league takes most of the biggest clubs, the uefa cup will always be a poor second, because of the lack of top sides |

You can't polish a turd! Maybe more money would make the clubs like Bolton take it more seriously, I think there's a huge gap between the money in this comp and the money in the Champions League. At least there has been a couple of good clubs in the UEFA Cup the past 2 years. Bayern last year and AC Milan this. |

uefa cup will always fail due to the ECL taking so many of the top clubs away. mumanc is right, or there abouts anyway. reduce the amount of teams in ECL, improves the quality of teams in the UEFA, and viola... |
