Short Memories?

I have to wonder sometimes just how fickle some fans are, or if they have the shortest of memories!

My point mainly revolving around how swiftly their minds change on how good a player is and start playing them down after a few games. Perfect examples are the likes of Torres and Rooney etc. They put in immense performances for an entire season, Torres being very recently. People start talking of these players as some of the best around, rating them in the upper echelons of the game.

Then after a few games they are made out to be mediocre, I really cant grasp fans that can change their minds in such a quick way.

The flip side is players that are suddenty thrust to the top and rated as the best in the world or one of the greatest in their position after a but a few games of performing well, instantly disregarding players that have been doing it for months or years.

Theres fickle and then theres just plain idiotic in my mind, takes all sorts i suppose....

Terrible, I completely agree. No wonder managers get the sack every 5 minutes.

I think you were away when we had the Rafa out nonesense on here after 1 result (the 0-0 with Stoke) yet Liverpool have had one of their best starts to the season in terms of results. I wont mention any names. <_<

so what you cant say a player has been crap when he has been crap bc he played well the previous season? (also i can't remember that many "immense" performances from rooney)

come come now fella, united surely dont have enough of a track record so far to show people that a start like this seasons means nothing!

ITs amazing really that people will try and write off teams and players so quickly, the norm now seems to be that you can have an entire season, perhaps even more of being fantastic and then a matter of 4-5 games and your Joe Average again.

My opinions on Rooney have been generated over a LONG period of time, and certain aspects of Torres' game I criticise I have been doing for months.

I don't change with the wind, my views are built upon a sustained period of time.

I know you weren't necessarily pinpointing anyone but I thought I'd clear that up :)

The phrase 'early days' is absolutely useless and many people seem to get swept away with what's happening now and completely disregard the remaining 8 months of the season...

i totally agree, some fans are very fickle but there always going to be about no matter whats going on. they dont see the bigger picture and expect things the rest of us know take time to build. success cant be achieved over night as they say

Well I agree very much with that basing players/managers/ on a few games.

My main criticisms this season has been Van Der Sar, Scholes, Giggs, and that criricism being now they should not be first team names in the big games if we have full squad available to choose from, taking away nothing from their glorious carreers.

If Rooney has being playing crap for as long as some peeps r saying, Fergie would have dropped him a long time ago. Fergie has never seemed to mind how big a name he drops. Surely the best judge off what Rooney gives MU is Fergie and he would drop him without a 2nd thought if he wasnt doing a good job.

Who would he have dropped him for?

A 20% fit Saha?

So now your saying that there is no one in the entire united squad that can play instead of Rooney..................my my, Fergie must have really ducked up then. U would expect better from a manager of his quality.

Well looks like we tried for Berba last season but with him just moved wasnt likely to get him. Not fergies fault Saha was crocked. Also we signed Manucho who had to be loaned for work permtit. Also Ronaldo could play up front as we had plenty of cover for midfield.

Sure ended up winning the double so Fergie didnt do to badly ah? :cheeky:
