The European Championship winning manager was a complete muppet. His decisions cost them the...the...ummm

i said almost cost them

he took of torres in the final when torres was unstoppable at times...

i dont think it was the style as much. he was good in the other games but he does sometimes prefer the more direct approach which he did get in the final but the manager just kept taking him off which dropped his confidence.

Unstoppable?

Honestly, what final were you watching? His goal was a nice finish but how in God's name was he unstoppable?

Fabregas, Villa, Silva (debatably), Xavi and Senna all had better Championships, although Torres was by no means poor.

the runs he was making were destroying the back 4

didnt you see them? this even led to lahm being subbed at half time

2-3 moments of the game he took the ball and ripped the defence apart and scored in 1 of those occasions.

when i call a striker unstoppable it means the defence unable to stop him from creating the chance because of his pace, movement, dribbling etc...

Apart from the goal, nothing he did harmed Germany...nothing more than usual anyway...he makes good off-the-ball runs and although Germany were awful with no urgency, Spain didn't create an awful lot in the first 60 minutes.

i can remember another moment after the goal when he took the ball and went through the defence like the first goal but just didnt score.

i still have the awful feeling that he plays best as a lone striker which worries me about the 20m spent on keane

Gerrard to get his 100th goal at Goodison seems inevitable.

problem is their will be more than 1 goal needed like last time at their ground.

just hope torres or keane start hitting those balls back of the net. if we win tommorow it will be our best ever start to the premier league in terms of points after the first 6 games

I'll put my hand up and say i can be guilty of this sometimes, just that if a player has a few bad games people start o get a bit frustrated especially if their name aint winning then they last out and critise the player generally to harshly

Scholes - regarding Tevez I'm sure you've been watching him a long time. But for me I've seen some great performances from him before this season. Even in certain matches for West Ham. Over the last 18 months imo he's been consistently good, but at times he's been excellent which imo shows his class. His performance during this period, his technical ability is never below 7/10, but at times he performs at 9/10. There were games when he came on in the last 15/20 mins of the match and was the best player on the pitch. In those moments he showed a certain amount of flair and individual ability which sometimes puts Ronaldo in the shade and I promise I don't say that lightly. And that's not to mention the crucial goals he scored in at least half a dozen games, but I wouldn't want to start talking stats  :cheeky:

I never said you would call for Fergie's head mate. The initial post is talking about the quick change in people rating players based on 4 or 5 games. Players forms dip and rise. Anderson for example shows a rashness (shooting from 80 yards) which is typical of an inexperienced player of his age coupled with one who's probably over-anxious to score his first goal. You never know, fergie may have even told him to take a shot if the opportunity presents itself instead of overplaying passes (not saying he did but what do any of us know). But none of that takes away from the performance and raw ability he's shown last season (after the sunderland game). Players aren't getting time to develop so what do you want to do now, not play Anderson again because he's over zealous?

The original post was giving examples of the rating of players, the overall thread is purely about fickleness, whether it is rating players or calling for managers' head.

On this thread I've only looked at it regarding players not general fickleness and tbh I haven't seen anyone else discuss it in those terms.

Ok, but I'm not fickle in any way. My thoughts on a player are always generated on a sustained period of time. My opinions never change rapidly...for eg. I only said Anderson was 'becoming' a headless chicken, never said he was one.

I may be a few things but fickle ain't one of them :cheeky:

you think anderson on his way to become headless chicken after just 2 games he played this season?

I didn't say he will become a headless chicken, no one knows the future. Just in 3 games this season there is a clear difference in composure from last season, I hope he sorts it out.

well Torres is again the greatest striker in the world right now, as he's bagged a couple this afternoon and RVN, Villa, Drogba, Auguero and Adebayor haven't scored any this weekend

yeah until one of them will score the same and torres will be not as good

strikers should judged over a year not a few games. in the last year torres was the best. we will see who will be the best when the season will end
