Former Newcastle striker Mick Quinn claims Magpies supporters will be "underwhelmed" by the appointment of Joe Kinnear as interim manager. The troubled club have turned to 61-year-old Kinnear as their manager until the end of October. Kevin Keegan left the club earlier this month, former England boss Terry Venables turned down a role at St James' Park on Thursday, while owner Mike Ashley is trying to sell. And Quinn, who joined the Magpies in 1989 and scored 59 goals in 115 games, claims the club "are in a bigger mess than the American economy". He told Sky Sports News: "Joe Kinnear has a lot of experience. I hope he does well because the club deserve a change of luck but at the moment it doesn't look too healthy. "He's been out of the game for a while, and he has been ill as well. There are a lot of foreign players in the game now - it's changed a little bit. "Short-term he may do a job but ask any Geordie about the appointment and they will be underwhelmed as well. "Newcastle are in a bigger mess than the American economy at the moment - I've heard 17 managers have turned the job down. "They need to get their house in order very quickly because the Premier League is very unforgiving. "If you haven't got your players up for it you get trampled all over...Newcastle at the moment are a shambles." Quinn, who left the club for Coventry in 1992 and also played for Portsmouth, Wigan, Stockport and Oldham, explained: "Newcastle are second bottom at the moment. The 46-year-old said: "Mike Ashley has to sell the club as soon as he can. "He went there with good intentions but I think he under-estimated the club and the last manager (Keegan). "It's time to go. It's getting messy. If he doesn't sell as soon as he can it's only going to devalue the club. "The club has to move forward very, very quickly - and that is without Mike Ashley." |

Can you blame them?? Why go to that mess of a club(as it stands) and run the chance of failing thus tarnishing your image. |

True, but it could also be a win/win. Nobody expects NUFC to do well in the short term, could be a chance of a job back in the big time if whoever does take over has some sort of success, and if they dont................peeps will just say, well what did u expect, what sort of chance did the guy have. |

But if the situation is still as it stands with the bigwigs puling the strings upstairs not allowing the manager to do his role to its maximum capacity.. no one will want it. But yea I see where your coming that its a win win scenario. |

It's nearly Christmas

It's up there long with the England job in terms of difficulty and expectations so it's hardly surprising. Given says he's underwhelmed by the appointment too.
