Played a deep-lying playmaker role today (like Scholes and Pirlo) and did a very good job doing so...never seen him play that role before today and I doubt it would've have happened had Masch been available. Fair play to Gerrard, neat performance with some nice touches....he was also dominant in 50-50 challenges, especially in the air... |

he is good at getting the ball and making strong runs forward... i think a lot of players are scared to tackle him and his rep helps him a lot |

he needs to play in that position regular that is the main point. he used to be a proper cm playing deep and for me was once the best in the world. then 2-3 years on he played on the wing then support striker then attacking midfield player. i personally think your over prasing him on this occasion russia. he had a decent game, maybe pushing it to good at best but noway near of the steve gerrard of about 4-5 years ago. the sad thing is when masch is back gerrard will be pushed out of that role |

HAHA, LFC18TITLES accusing me of overpraising Gerrard - who'd have thought we'd see that? Nah, but seriously, I was actually impressed with how good he was.... |

wasnt good i was annoyed at how he over complicated things with his long range passing. like i said the gerrard we saw was at around 75 percent of the old gerrard of 4-5 years ago when he was unstoppable at cm... i somehow hope rafa keeps him at cm. give him a good 10 games in that role in a row then he will start getting better and better. today performace was at around 6.5 out of 10 for me |

Are you kidding me? I am continuously banging on about his overzealous ways and needless passing attempts...you always defended him because playing the killer pass all the time was the best thing to do. Today, finally, I see evidence he can do the simple thing, and do it well, and you disagree

haha i know i cant believe i am saying it. it is like keane has taken over the gerrard role of supporting torres now which he did brilliantly today. well gerrard is 28 now. i think its time he changes to cm anyway even though he hasnt lost his pace. also thinks he owes england a hell of a lot of great performances but that is another topic. i liked his role today. i will be the first to admit i thought he would struggle but he never. still think he can improve his passing accuracy to the level he had a few years back. it is strange i was thinking about tit oday but that anderson reminds me of a young gerrard. when both wer eyoung they were introduced in dm/cm. both have great tackling, passing at times, power, pace etc... can see anderson being a driving am after scholes go. anyways gerrard wasnt very good etc...decent/good at best...! |

hmm i dont think so. i watched about the first 30 seconds of it and switched it off but one thing i did notice from those 30 seconds was the fact the balls he played were with his left foot and he was on the left wing. guess what... hes not left footed and he is not a left winger
:P
