do we dictate that Styles makes 1 really poor decison and is demoted, but Riley makes several less important but still frankly bad decisions but is ok to carry on?

overall, Riley had the worse performance as a ref, but will carry on

Both should be punished really or at least held accountable for their actions in some way. A fine or whatever.

you can't fine a ref for a poor decision. you don't fine strikers for missing goals, defenders for own goals etc.

but they need to be accountable in a reasoned light.

On a side note, Wonder how many people on here (or critiques full stop) have refereed a Sunday league game, for arguments sake. It's 1000 times harder than you think it is

Yeah thats a fair point but why don't they just come on tv after the match and just hold their hands up and say look I fcked up. I made a mistake but with the best will in the world I made a decision I believed to be right at the time. He would get some credit for being a man about it. A lot of these refs come across as little hitlers on the pitch and arrogant cowards off it.

Agreed, but I'm sure Hackett (ref's cheif) has banned his refs from doing this.

They are allowed to come out after a game and explain themselves. Styles was offered and he "politely" declined the offer.

Does that mean that he knows that he got it wrong? <_<

Flak...course he does. You seriously believe a professional referee can deny he got a decision like that wrong after looking at the replay?

He was just too cowardly to apologise.

Interesting read...United players didn't even think it was a penalty themselves...

Quote:

"Ronaldo was on the floor saying, 'I didn't want a penalty!'," said Nolan in the Daily Mail.

"I don't think one of them put their hands up asking for a penalty. Fletcher's going, 'It's not a penalty', Tevez is going, 'It's not a penalty'. Twenty players who were in the box at the time knew it wasn't a penalty.

"But the man who was in black had the final say. They couldn't believe their luck.

"But you're at United and unfortunately that happens.

"It does strike fear into you when you look at this magnificent stadium. Maybe that's what's happened to the referee. He said he thought Jlloyd took Ronaldo before the ball.

"It didn't make sense to me at all. But I can't say too much or I'm going to get done by the FA."

I should hope they bloody well didn't :D Anyone who puts fourth an argument it was a penalty are either stupendously biased, mentally challenged or childish. Or blind.
