Respect To Ronaldo And United; Nolan - Ronaldo Is An Honest Bloke

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan admits even Manchester United's players were baffled by Rob Styles' penalty award on Saturday.

"Ronaldo was on the floor saying, 'I didn't want a penalty!'," said Nolan in the Daily Mail.

"I don't think one of them put their hands up asking for a penalty. Fletcher's going, 'It's not a penalty', Tevez is going, 'It's not a penalty'. Twenty players who were in the box at the time knew it wasn't a penalty.

"But the man who was in black had the final say. They couldn't believe their luck."

Enough times people jump on United and in particular Ronaldo I'm sure there's a lot of "he's a greasy deigo bastrd so he must be a cheat" mentality that goes around. Well occasionally there are instances where the integrity of a player comes to the fore. Anyone know of any other instances where a player having been awarded a pen immediately stated it wasn't? Robbie Fowler is one that springs to mind, but not many others.

Viva Ronaldo ;)

Very professional to put the kick away, a lesser professional knowing it should'nt have been awarded may have missed on purpose or even may have put it in and not celebrated. Viva Ronaldo :fishing:

If that was sarcasm then for once I don't agree with you :D

It blatantly wasn't a dive either way - so many people calling Ronaldo a cheat (namely on SS) haven't a clue about the beautiful game.

Missed on purpose. Was it against Arsenal. Think McAteer ran in and put the rebound in??

Got to agree, if they knew it wasn't a penalty then they should have just rolled it to the keeper or missed on purpose. Maybe Ronaldo would have done if United were already winning...

Just read what happened with the Fowler spot kick and he said he tried to score it was just a poor penalty.

Personally I don't think I'd want Arsenal to miss a penalty on purpose because a dodgy decision could later go against them. And if the opposition is later given the chance, what if they're not as generous?

Absolute bollocks I'm afraid.

You take every stroke of luck that comes to you in this league. Poor decisions are made frequently throughout games.

True but I was arguining more about Ronaldo being an honest bloke, he might not have wanted the penalty but he still took it and scored.

Oh and Scholes, it's called having an opinion. <_<

Yeah I guess to some people Ronaldo himself could probably have dealt with it in an honest way. I haven't seen his reaction to scoring, was his celebration a bit muted or was it full on?

And mine is that it's bollocks.

I'm all for sporting etiquette but poor decisions are made fequently during the course of 90 minutes. You've just got to go with each decision and be ruthless.
