when was the last time you did something for the first time??

Tottenham assistant boss Gus Poyet has admitted it is "difficult" for strikers Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko to play together.

Spurs are currently languishing at the foot of the Premier League table and a section of their supporters turned on manager Juande Ramos following Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth.

Part of their ire was directed at Ramos' decision to employ Pavlyuchenko as a lone frontman, with Bent introduced off the bench in place of the Russian.

Poyet has defended the decision by claiming the pair have struggled to form any understanding, a real concern given they are the club's only senior strikers.

"Unfortunately this season, when Pavlyuchenko and Bent played together it didn't work for us," Poyet is quoted in The Sun.

"They're the same type of player and it is difficult for them to play together.

"So we made the decision to play with one striker.

So why buy him then!! spurs fans must be going mad at the mo
According to my calculations the problem doesn't exist

I have a feeling Ramos would prefer to play 4-5-1 and he wants to have two similar strikers for if one of them gets injured... Still not very bright move to play them together.... If they wanted a two striker system they should've got Arshavin.... He is exactly the kind of players who likes playing support striker and is fabulous at it as well....

So they dragged out the sale of their two best strikers for so long that in desperation they ended up with a not-exactly-cheap player who is too similar to a not-exactly-cheap one they already had?

I'd be laughing SO hard if we hadn't just lost at home to Hull City :(

I could have told them it wouldn't work with playing those two strikers together.

Agree with Dutch, should have pulled out all the stops to sign Arshavin to link up with Bent.

It would have been good to keep Defoe as well to play with Bent but they never knew their other two strikers were going to leave when they sold him.

I thought that too initially uncle flak but Berbatov's attitude did seem a bit off during Spurs' last season...

His attitude has always been like that from what I can tell.

That would mean Pavulychenko on the bench who they have just paid over £10m for. Spurs have really dropped a cod, not only be losing and signing so many players but having to play a different formation now.

Pavvy is too new and Bent is too expensive for the bench :D

Campbell is temporary and once he's gone Spurs will need another new striker to get used to playing upfront with the ones they have.

Ramos didn't buy him. Its Comolli who does all the signings. He's the one they should be getting rid of instead of managers.

It gets me why the board appoint these people when it's just another set of wages going out of the club each week and can cause problems with the manager. Thought part of management was signing the players you want too...
