FIA try to block Brundle move to BBC

Oct.23 (GMM) F1's governing body is reportedly not happy about the continuing commentating career of former grand prix driver Martin Brundle.

It is widely expected that the popular 49-year-old, who currently occupies the ITV commentary box, is set to switch over to the BBC from next year as the sport's broadcasting rights in Britain change hands.

But despite winning six Royal Television Society Awards for his role, Brundle is not popular among FIA figures.

The Briton revealed last year he has been the subject of the Paris body's complaints to ITV that his "commentary is not up to standard".

The World Motor Sport Council last year also cleared the path for the FIA to pursue Brundle for libel for a newspaper column he wrote suggesting the spy scandal was akin to a "witch hunt".

The British newspaper Daily Mail now reports that FIA delegate Alan Donnelly, who represents Max Mosley at grands prix, "has been trying to dissuade BBC executives from employing Brundle".

Martin Brundle contested nearly 160 grands prix for teams including Tyrrell, Williams, Benetton, McLaren and Jordan.

this all stems from Brundle writing an article for a newspaper in which he labelled the FIA's persecution of Mclaren last year as a "witch hunt". Really pathetic of the FIA to now try and remove him from the screens, just another example of how useless this group are!

i'm not bothered on the main commentators but Martin Brundle and his start grid walk are an integral part of watching the F1 weekend to me, he's without doubt the best F1 pundit that we have around at the moment

Think he knew what trouble it would cause, his direct quote at the time was: "The timing of the writ is significant, in my view, given the FIA’s decision to find Renault guilty of having significant McLaren designs and information within their systems, but not administering any penalty. It is a warning sign to other journalists and publications to choose their words carefully over that decision. I’m tired of what I perceive as the "spin" and tactics of the FIA press office, as are many other journalists. I expect my accreditation pass for next year will be hindered in some way to make my coverage of F1 more difficult and to punish me. Or they will write to ITV again to say that my commentary is not up to standard despite my unprecedented six Royal Television Society Awards for sports broadcasting. So be it"

Prob didnt help that he had a pop about Mosley and his alleged hookers: "The specific detail of the scandal surrounding him is largely irrelevant, in my view. The sporting regulation he has used over the years to keep teams in check relates to bringing the sport into disrepute. If you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Sitting on the fence on this issue for any of us inside the sport is not an option. We must condone or condemn the situation he finds himself in. Mosley's position as president is untenable".

Great to see someone standing up to Mosley and Ecclestone, be a real shame if they force him out.
