I posted this topic when these boards first started, and was met with a hostile response.

I personally find it offensive as do alot of regulars (especially the older people)

I have not read the rest of the topic so it may have already been stated but the term derives from west brom fans who coined the song that included the lines

duncan edwards is M*a*n*u*r*e
rotting in his grave
man *u* r M*a*n*u*r*e rotting in your grave

because he signed for man united after being on their books, they took it upon themselves to mock his death, this spread and other nasty channts refering to us as Man Utd eventually led to the man *u* abreiviation. I dont so much mind these days young kids saying it as it just seems like a harmless abreivation, and sky sports et al use it. But any united fan using the term i will at the very least tell them of its origin and hope they do not use the term again.

Every clubs guilty of having fans singing sick songs. Remember united fans a few seasons ago singing 'wheres your famous 23' to us. Everyone does it (even though it sounds like I'm defending it, im not)

Some of the posts on this thread that belittle those ppl from a different era who are old enuff to remember these sick songs/terms being sung is tbh digusting. Just because we're too young to remember or understand the offense it caused 40 years ago doesn't mean "it's ppl taking offense at everything". Ppl need to wise up to the idea that perhaps sick offensive chants were around before they were born. Personally I don't find it offensive because I'm not old enough to feel the hurt it caused but I wouldn't belittle those that do. It's like 20 years from now kids being born today may not understand why ppl take offense at certain Hillsborough or Heysel songs. What will some of you fans say then?
