Tadpole's Excrement

ha! i know. i was just trying to make the point that he was the only player we signed that summer we had gone 3 years without a title but have since won it both times

But you said it was no coincedence we won it the 2 years he was here. Like he was some way a huge influence. Which he wasn't imo. |

its because i dont think it is just a coincedence. i think he has, like i said, given us great balance in the centre of midfield. he may not tackle like hargreaves but he breaks up the opposition play well. he may not be able to pass like scholes but hes got a great array of passes, long and short. you can play him with either those 2 or anderson and he combines well, and depending on which one hes alongside he can sit or push-up Edited by kebabeater, Dec 8 2008, 12:28 AM.

I agree with that completely. The only criticism I have of Carrick is his effectiveness is determined by the experience of the central midfield player beside him, ie. our central midfield as a whole doesn't offer much unless he has the likes of Hargreaves or Scholes next to him |

Our defence the past 2 seasons where much much more important in us winning the title. Against the small games Carrick looks a good player, but against the top sides when he's put under pressure we see the real Carrick. Its shown everytime we face a top side. Against Barcelona last season over 2 legs, Chelsea, Liverpool... Carrick is an average player, and we can do much better than him. Saying he was more influencial is an insult to our excellent back line. |

i dont agree mate. our best run of results last season was when it was carrick and anderson in CM. also like flak mentioned, since hes been back i dont think weve conceded a goal this season

tbh if u rate pirlo and alonso then carrick is of a similar mold, he rarely gets dispossessed, great ability with long and short passes on both his feet. id say he has the potential to be as influential as scholes. the main problem is that he does it un-noticed like scholes did for so many years then when scholes came back from injury people saw what united missed without him |

Maybe, but I think Ronaldo not performing to the standard he did last season is exposing the averageness of our central midfield this season (and without Scholes as well). Anderson is good and Fletcher's been good too this season, but I think Ronaldo's exceptional form papered over some cracks in midfield last season. But I want to stress I rate Carrick a lot, goes about his business without the fanfare you get with players in other teams doing what he does. And I agree he does protect the back 4 in terms of breaking up play and therefore the clean sheets etc recently. |

Haven't we done this before I'm not sure tbh, but some sort of replacement for Hargo imo. Lasagna Diarra or maybe Veloso
