And they'd come into a midfield of Anderson/Scholes + Veloso/Diarra ???? |

Most probably but eventually Scholes will retire. So you could have any combination of Anderson+Carrick, Anderson+Veloso/Diara or even Carrick+Veloso/Diara. Don't forget Fergie played quite a few games with Hargo+Carrick in the middle and it was effective enuff if not a little defensive for my liking. |

But Carrick wouldn't be first choice. It shows that we can definelty, and should, do better than him. |

tbh id rather we had a bit more defense in there (hargo and carrick), so the full backs evra and rafeal can push on. else well see o'shea playing in defence alot, not good! |

tbh I agree with Kebabeater on Carrick, but he needs a quality cm next to him imo to really get the best out of him. When you don't have that there is too much on Carrick's shoulders to deliver and he isn't good enuff. I'm gonna try to get across what I mean about Carrick and without making direct comparisons (or liverpool fans will jump on me) I would say it's like having Alonso without Gerrard next to him. |

But thats not good enough imo. I certainly wouldn't be confident going into a game agaisnt Barca, Chelsea, Liverpool with a CM consistening on Carrick + Anderson (for example) you need 2 quality CMs in there. Gerrard plays further up so isn't next to Alonso???? |

Carrick deserves little credit for Vidic's goal...he took the initiative as you'd expect but it was hardly a piledriver. I like him though, good pro too. |

I know, but Alonso's game and Liverpool's midfield is better with Gerrard and Alonso in it. If you take away Gerrard you are asking more of Alonso (even with Masch next to him) which he isn't always good enuff to deliver. Even if you stick Anderson next to Alonso I don't think right now that central midfield would be good enuff, altho given time I'm sure it would be. This is the same with Carrick. |

Alonso is a better player than Carrick. Carrick played with Scholes for the majority of last season and in the big games was found out. With Alonso next to Gerrard, would leave ALonso more to do though as Gerrard would be getting forward alot. Or do you mean as a 3? |

No not thinking as a 3 just the point that to rely on Alonso who has a good array of passing as well as the ability to break up play i(much like Carrick) is too much to rely on in terms of offering enuff going forward. I thought the cm was good with him and Scholes tbh, especially the 06-07 season it was very good. |

If he didn't take the shot, there would be no goal. Of course United's midfield isn't going to match up to other teams that are playing with 3 central midfielders, i'm not going through it again though. If Carrick wasn't good enough, he wouldn't still be at United, let alone first choice in the centre of midfield, the most important position on the pitch! |
