Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed a full-strength, 23-man squad that will travel to Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup next week. The Reds depart for Tokyo on Sunday, the day after the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. United boss Sir Alex had hinted that he might leave some players behind to cope with the Stoke City fixture on Boxing Day, just three days after the Reds return from the Japanese capital. But the Reds manager's squad selection is a statement of intent - United want to win this competition and take world football's crown to go with the European title. United enter the competition at the semi-final stage in Yokohama on Thursday 18 December (KO 10:30 CET) against one of Adelaide United (Australia), Waitakere United (New Zealand), or Gamba Osaka (Japan). In the other half of the draw, Egyptian giants Al-Ahly fight it out with Mexicans Pachuca for the right to play LDU Quito of Ecuador in the other semi-final. The final is on Sunday 21 December (KO 10:30 CET) at the Yokahama Stadium. Travelling squad: Goalkeepers: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Foster; Defenders: Neville, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Evans, Rafael; Midfielders: Ronaldo, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson; Strikers: Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez, Welbeck. Do you thinks it going to affect the players in the league when they return it could be pointless if they dont win it |

I'd have liked to see some of the fringe players play and give the main ones a rest tbh. |

i dont think it so much of the players playing its the fact that there traveling half away across the world, jet lag and the heat could affect the players |

Could be pointless even if u do win it, depends on how important u think the comp is?????? To me, the FA cup carries more weight. |

tbh the CC carries more weight, and altho I personally couldn't be bothered with this cup cos of the fixtures mounting I am always always impressed with Fergie's attitude towards trying to win all competitions. Credit to him, the guy's a winner or at least has the attitude of one

that was politics Andy, to do with FA putting pressure on United after undercover promises made to FIFA so that England's WC2018 bid wasn't scrapped in return. None of that bollox this time... |
