absolute tosh, most of the players here at Anfield want the CL just as much (and in some cases even more) then the league, and getting knocked out early would really help them... we are winning games when we is not playing well, and more importantly, we are not losing games when we are playing well(except if your Spurs) |

not from me "The most common concern of all the correspondence I receive from Liverpool fans on the site is in relation to Rafa Benitez’ contract negotiations at Anfield. There seems to be a lot of conflicting stories and speculation doing the rounds at the moment and a large number of you have been asking me if I know what is really going on. (And please, keep leaving your comments and asking your questions here, I very much enjoy reading them). Having spoken to some of the people involved and - without revealing details that are essentially private - there are things that can be said about these negotiations because there is a lot of rubbish and mis-information being published in newspaper stories: often with an ulterior motive, sometimes without. Some of these reports have suggested that money is the main obstacle. However, according to sources close to George Gillett Jr, there have been two meetings so far and the subject of money has not yet featured in the discussions – or to put it another way, it is not something that Rafa’s agent and lawyer have wanted to get in to yet. According to people close to Benitez, the next meetings should take place very soon; but according to sources close to the American owners, there is no rush. And, even though money side of things is way down Rafa’s list of priorities, the issue of money will have to be raised before very long: probably at the next meeting. At the moment the respective positions of both parties is typical of how things are done in these kinds of contract negotiations: according to the same sources, Gillett is holding out to see what Benitez demands, while the coach is waiting to see what the Americans are willing to offer. At this stage, the only thing to have been discussed in detail is the duration of the contract and, according to Gillett, the Americans would be happy to offer a 3 year extension and I have the impression that this will be accepted by Benitez. So, in principle, the first step of an agreement has been reached. Once the money issue has been settled, there will be other matters that will need to be resolved, but the American owners are very optimistic about the situation and they think that they will be able to deliver the renewal of Rafa Benitez’ contract as a timely Christmas present for all concerned with Liverpool Football Club." |

“The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they do not know the game.”

no it will be to discuss the long term future of the club, if rafa and the owners are singing from the same hymn sheet in terms of were the club is going and the way its progressing, transfer funds. also i believe that rafa was furious at the leaked information about him wanting more money, i dont believe money is an issue myself |
