United wait on UEFA decision on Rooney

Manchester United face an anxious wait to discover whether UEFA will take action against Wayne Rooney for his lunge on Kasper Risgard in last night's Champions League clash with Aalborg.

Rooney, who scored the second for United in their 2-2 draw, also gained some unwanted attention for a second-half tackle that floored Michael Jakobsen.

But it was the incident before the break involving Risgard that Europe's governing body will want to look at more closely, with Rooney facing a fine or suspension from the knock-out phase if UEFA feel he has a case to answer.

Risgard was in no doubt, claiming Rooney apologised to him for the clash.

The midfielder said: 'I do not think the referee saw it. Anywhere else but this place it would have been a red card.

'I have some big marks and I do not think it looks good on television.

'There was also another incident with Rooney where he threw an arm and hurt one of our players.

'But these challenges happen in football and he did come and apologise to me after the game.'

Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had not seen anything untoward and will hope UEFA reach the same conclusion.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Did'nt see any of this, anybody see it & think he has a case to answer for or is it ott

People will come on here and say he was pushed and wasn't in control of where his legs were in midair, but knowing Rooney, it wouldn't surprise me. He also kicked someone in the back of the shins off-the-ball...the ref saw it but played an 'advantage'.

I've never known anyone get away with so much in football.

Yep saw all 3 and the one they're saying Uefa will look at was the most innocuous and NOT intentional, he lost balance and tried to gather his feet but trod on the player.

The one where Rooney WAS a complete pr4t was when he felt he got a foul, he didn't hear a whistle so as he went down basically done a karate kick at the defender. Embarrassed by those actions tbh and really thats the one Uefa should be looking at.

The third was a tussle between him and the big brick 5hithouse who was behind him. 6 of one half a dozen of the other, the guy was trying to push and bully him off the ball and Rooney was trying to push him back, nothing in that one tbh.

Didnt the 3rd incident see rooney almost taking swipes with his arm at the player?

Big thanks to Sky though for highlighting all this, oterwise UEFA might not have noticed it. In all the incidents, the referee is very close, can see what happened, but took no action. Would be surprised if anything comes of it. Then again, it's United, so I suppose it will be a ban and a ground closure.

The defender (the big brick 5hithouse) was behind him, and Rooney was pushing him off with his arm behind him. When the ref blew the whistle, Rooney turned around to have a go at him and the defender pushed him away with both hands on his chest. That's why I think the initial tussle and the follow up was handbags at dawn imo.

yup i saw the defender push him away afterwards but from what i saw rooney was more concerned in hitting the bloke than holding the ball.

he defiantly didnt intent to step on the player, in the game the player didnt make a big deal out of it just after. i dont think rooney is like that anymore, defiantly think the defender should have been carded for the push on rooney off the ball if that had happened the other way round rooney would have been carded also rooney was shielding the ball and was getting clipped, guarantee you in the same situation but the other way round the defender would go down and get a free kick

@Blah - Maybe, but he was always looking at the ball in front of him and defender was on his back with Rooney warding him off with his arm behind him. You see that sort of stuff all the time until someone gets caught and then a foul is given which is what happened here. But the trouble with Rooney is he gets easily frustrated and lets his rage get the better of him and I still feel the 2nd incident (the kick as he went down) was awful and dare I say the malicious one.
