I know Wenger will be instantly thrown into the pot here, and for damn good reason too as he has picked up some amazing players for a pittance. However I reckon theres at least one manager there to rival him, and potentially usurp him.... Stand up David Moyes, a great point made last night at the match, Everton's entire squad on the pitch was worth only a shade more than Fernando Torres. Wenger has done superbly, but not with limited funds, he's just chosen not to spend in general and got himself some gems, lets look at Evertons squad though.... First up, Arteta of course, this season just about the best set piece player in the prem, picked up for the princely sum of... £2 million! IF this lad had been at one of the top clubs there is that chance he might have challenged for a place in the spanish squad. A top class talent and fantastically loyal to the club The theres Tim Cahill, £1.5 million! Just how many times has this lad saved evertons bacon, the guy has to have some kangaroo in his blood as how a lad thats 5'10" can keep getting his head on the ball so much in the box is beyond me! Lescott - a certain future england regular for me, great when deployed almost across the back 4, defensively he's solid and he's damn good in attack too. His price? £2million initially, £2 million in installements and a final fee of £1 million, utter bargain. So thats three top players already for a sum of just £8.5 million!, apparently you can just about buy half a craig bellamy for that! Go through the rest of the squad and its quite frankly bargain after bargain, Baines - £5 million, great left back if he can put injuries behind him. Jaglielka, ultimate utility man, can even play in goal if required, just £4 million. Pienaar, £2million, Moyes' only real extravagant spend was on Marouane "huggy bear" Fellaini, £15 million and an everton record fee, after a quiet start he's become one of the driving forces in the squad and looks to be one of the top buys of the summer.... Sure some will query me, a liverpool fan, bigging up Moyes so much, but I believe in credit where credit is due and Moyes has been for me one of, if not the best managers in the transfer market over the last few years, certainly rivalling Wenger in the "eye for a bargain" market. I've said for some time now that he could make a decent replacement for Fergie in the future, still young and from the transfer dealings between the two clubs I think theres a fairly good friendship between them. With hughes having gone to City and MON possibly liking the stay at Villa could it be a fellow scot in Moyes to take up the Old Trafford reigns once Fergie decides to move up to the board? |

Still would say Wenger is the best he may have spent more but the players have been of a higher standard e.g 3.5m for Vieria, Fabregas 500k, Anelka 500k, Henry £10.5m but imo the best ever P/L player so its not much considering. |

between the two theres honestly not a massive divide, dont forget that in negotiations too wenger has a lot more to offer these players than moyes does, even with a wage cap at Arsenal he can still in general offer far more lucarative contracts along with a team that has been pushing at the top and the champions league regularly. Moyes has been getting these palyers with far lower wages and without the general stature that comes with a club like arsenal. |

Wenger has spent less than Moyes during his time at Everton. FACT. In fact, since his time in England, Wenger is in the bottom 3 in terms of money spent on transfers. In fact, he's made a profit... |

Steve Bruce has done very well in the market too. Palacios for 1m, Valencia, Zaki, Figueroa looks a decent little player. did well at Brum too I think. Kapo, brought him to Wigan with him too... |

@ dagunners - missing the point being made completely then..... @ keano - fair point, but look at where moyes has been getting everton to in the league lately, managed a 4th place finish not long ago and in general have been pushing the top places fairly regularly lately. Same could be said about Bruce at Wigan in fairness. Think they were in relegation zone, or thereabouts, when he took over and now pushing for Europe this season. |

bruce is good, dont get me wrong, but i dont think he's come close to moyes as of yet, made some good buys but moyes has formed a hell of a squad in total and on a pittance too |

come on, look at what he has to work with and the players he has managed to get, i can't see how anyone can deny that he has been one of the best managers with regards to transfers over the years. Fairly sure his net spend in his tenure is practically zero if not a profit too. Lest we forget that he got near enough £31 million for Rooney in one season alone and spent pretty much none of it |

Never said he did just throwing his name in as he deserves a mention imo. Though if he stays at Wigan theres a great chance he will build up a better squad for similar/less than Moyes has spent. |

Moyes is incredible. If he were to leave in the morning and people were to look at the state of the club now compared to when he took over they have to give due recognition to his legacy at Everton. |

aye, the squad was ancient when moyes took over and needed a major revamp. Another point to make is that he has had to deal with Bill Kenwright, I think even most Everton supporters will tell you that in its own right should mean giving Moyes a medal. Kenwright can be a right muppet at times. |
