I think Arsenal have sell on clauses in some of the players they sell. Ithink they got like 4m for Pompey when they sold Diarra to Real.

errr exactly, far bigger club, far bigger wages can be paid, far easier to attract top players....much harder job when your team doesnt have the stature or the means....

Arteta and Cahill were two great buys and credit to them both for staying with Everton when they no doubt had offers to go elsewhere. Neville for £3.5m or whatever it was is a snip of the price too. I'm not too keen on players like Osman and Pienaar, they aren't the best individuals but their team-play is good at least.

As for Moyes the next United manager, it's a strong possibility if Fergie has a say in the appointment considering all the deals between the two clubs....not sure how Rooney would get on with Moyes though. I was reading an article the other day about that NFL team the Glazer's own and when their old coach retired they appointed a relative novice....they seem to think the same could happen with United.

On the Wenger/Moyes debate...think you have to take into account the scouting networks of the two clubs. It's not like Wenger finds all of the players he buys.
Who implemented the scouting system?

Also, Wenger never buys a player based on scouts opinions, he merely looks at a player scouts recommend, he then decides whether the player should be tracked and to what degree...

True, it is easier when you can cherry pick the best from the crop...

Also, if you put players like Fabregas, Clichy, or Adebayor under Moyes from when they were bought they wouldn't be the players they are today. That aspect of it must be taken into account...

I thought this was about transfers? Is it player development as well, I think the subject is getting a bit blurred tbh

Yeah I understand you find it hard to give Moyes any credit, personally I have no allegiance to either manager and consider them 2 of the best for transfers in the prem. I don't look at net spend that much, just who they've bought and what they've achieved on a consistent basis. Money doesn't always buy success, look at Spurs, and when you compare Everton to Spurs you get a perspective of just how good a manager Moyes is.

Man management for one.

I agree with Jimmy, Moyes has done a fantastic job, I think the key point was how the sqaud that played last night was worth about a million more than Torres.

Taking a struggling club to the heights he has done with so little money and being the attraction of a big club is excellent. Comparing the likes of Moyes to Wenger isn't fair considering the differences there are. This thread meerly appriciates what Moyes has done.

I don't think jimmy intended this to become a question of who is better (from reading the first post, sorry if i'm wrong) i think he's just looking at giving Moyes some credit

Jimmy set the precedent for this becoming a Wenger vs Moyes thread by putting Arsene's name into it. I had better not see my name thrown into the fray for another derailed thread...

Exactly, but DaGunners wanted to tell how brilliant Wenger was instead. <_<

But jimmy was being positive to Wenger, he only mentioned Wenger's name because Wenger is always a name people come up with when talking about managers being good in the transfer market. You need to learn when to take things as a compliment and not an insult.

And that annoyed you so much that you couldn't bring yourself to give Moyes ANY credit in any of the posts you've made on this thread
