I highly doubt they can do what Wilshere did. Well maybe 1 in every 10 atempts if their lucky. :moon: Out side of his left foot it was an amazing finish.

From players I have watched at local club level, there are quite a few 17 year olds (and younger) who can hit a ball with either foot. Can you believe they actually practice doing it ?
Now if kids who play for fun can do it, I imagine a professional would be even better.
Ignorance is bliss.

So basically, no goal should ever be credited because some wannabe down the local park could reproduce it with enough attempts?

Class strike from Wilshere, showed great technique and is a specialist with the outside of the boot.

GFS It'sREDinRussia. I'm not saying it isn't a great goal, it is. But get the bloody thing in context. You are talking about a guy who has been groomed to be a professional footballer from an early age. He is playing in a reserve match. I most certainly would expect him to be able to perform like that.
He looks like a good player, and it is a good goal. Why do we have to have all the hype that he has done something extaordinary ?

It is a good enough goal. Had it been in the Champions League final, then it would get rave reviews. But in a reserve match with no pressure ??

You amongst other seem very reluctant to actually praise what was a great goal.

Not many players at his age would even attempt that shot from there, let alone pull it off with such precision. The guy is a class act and yet again proved so yesterday.

Also, Jack Wilshere is left-footed so it was with his stronger foot. I doubt anyone has ever scored a goal like that with their weaker foot. It's not really possible and you'd know this if you played the game.

Nobody is doubting it was a good goal but i think we should see how often he can replicate this and other performances against top defence's before people start overhyping him.

Not in the least bit reluctant to praise the lad for the goal. As I said, I just can't understand why so many people are going overboard about it. I think you'll find there are plenty of cracking goals scored in reserve matches by young players ... they're the ones who make the Premiership.
Accept it for what it is a, a great goal from a guy you practices these things every day.

Oh my days, it really isn't such a big deal. Good goal, why can't people leave it at that?

I called him a special talent, and that's exactly what he is. Whether he makes it at PL level is another matter but the goal should still be credited and is more than worthy of its own thread.

There's overhyping a player and then there's trying to take the shine off a great goal. The fact you 'expect' someone to score goals like that with their weaker foot tells its own story.

and people going on about it having its own thread should probably remember there isn't an Arsenal section and it was posted for those who may not have seen the game

great goal no doubt, I agree in a sense though that it being a reserve match makes it a tad easier to try those kind of things, under pressure in a league match or european match and he does that an it would deserve a much higher accolade. Not to play it down too much though as its a great effort from a top young talent.

On a side note, is it not worth having some kind of "youth/reserve" thread where we can discuss the efforts of some of the up and coming stars from our teams. Theres been quite a bit I would have liked to have talked about from my own teams youth but have reserved posting too much on it as it doesn't seem like they warrant individual threads in this section. With the team forums being removed it could be a decent place to have the chatter....

it was a good goal. in a reserve game.

it wasn't an 'amazing finish', 'brilliant goal' or anything worthy of over enthusiastic superlatives. what happens when he scores a really good goal in a prem (or whoa be tide) an important game (cup final, european decider)? Have a whole section for it?

Perspective please

I saw the goal and i have to say it was Quali-d! I've seen Quaresma score a couple like like that. That dude is a great talent, he is at the right club to develop further.

A whole section? It's one topic that got a good response and that goal is worth talking about.

And yes, it was an amazing finish.

The thread was to show the goal to those who may not have seen it. I missed it and would have liked to see it if I didn't have ATVO. It won't be on television, you won't see it on MOTD, so there's nothing wrong in people helping others to catch a glimpse.

I do agree with jimmyjames, we do need a section for these things, firstly so it doesn't clog up the main forum and secondly so people can easily identify reserve match threads and post things like goal clips in those. We probably won't get panties in a twist then
