Barcelona are preparing to open talks with Samuel Eto'o's agent about a contract extension, having decided that they want to keep the striker after his impressive start to the season.

The Blaugrana want to start their renewal plans with the Cameroonian international and tie him down to a new deal before moving on to Rafa Marquez, Carles Puyol and Victor Valdes.

Eto'o has stated that he has made up his mind about what he wants to do next and while he has not made that public, Sport believe that he will put pen-to-paper on a new contract at Camp Nou.

Having scored 23 goals in 22 league appearances this term, the 27-year-old has convinced Pep Guardiola and the Barca board that he should be kept and to forget plans to sign a costly replacement.

While the Catalan club have been linked with David Villa and Karim Benzema, they know that they already have one of the best goalscorers in Europe settled at the club.

Now talks can begin with Eto'o's representatives. It is believed that the player will tell them to ask for a four-year extension to keep him at Barcelona until 2014.

That is what the club also want, but it will be the players' demands of €9 million-per-season that may prove a sticking point in bringing the parties together.

A contract until 2014 would mean that Eto'o could then move to Real Mallorca, the club where he has stated that he wants to finish his career.

He's coming into the final year of his contract now and Barca wanted rid of him last summer! Bet they're glad he stayed on. Apparenlty he's already made a decision on his future, Barca are keeping their options open too with Benzema or maybe Villa.

They'll probably go after him anyway. But with his form Barca would be stupid to let him go. How things have changed in a few months though :D

Not sure about Henry. He could go to City or the US. Can't really see him leaving this summer tbh.

if they can get 20m or more for him then sell him

he IS a world class striker but there ARE better strikers out there than him. strikers like torres and villa are better strikers. they have better finishing and dribbling skills than him....

if they cant get torres or villa then barce should keep him but villa is better and they should try to sign villa and then sell eto

Eto'o is top, top class but he is getting long in the tooth. Replacing him with Villa or Benzema it would be good business...

his finishing is below the level of villa....people need to understand the amount of chances barce creates and this guy misses

to play as a lone striker, having top class finishing is so important....

against stats do not tell the whole story

you need to look at the bigger picture. the amounts of goals do not show how many he misses

his finishing is good but like i said, there are better

to be honest i dont think striking is their problem, although i think it would be wise to sign him on a short term deal while getting another striker so they can slowly introduce a striker before relying on him for the entire season.

they dont really have any problems

all they can do is improve on what they got...the striking, gk and lb positions can be improved to the next level with a bit of funds easily...
