Klaas-Jan Huntelaar announced that he was pleased Barcelona were beaten on Saturday evening to allow Real Madrid to move to within seven points of the league leaders.

The Dutch striker netted twice in Los Merengues' emphatic victory over Real Betis in the Bernabeu while the Blaugrana were tasting defeat for only the second time this term.

After opening his account for Madrid against Sporting Gijon, Huntelaar netted a brace and is beginning to repay the investment that the club made in him last month.

"I am happy to have scored two more goals for this team. That makes three, but I need to score many more to help this team win matches," he told the club's official website.

"Also, I am pleased that Barcelona lost and that we managed to cut into their lead and now we are seven points away.

"We will have to see what happens in upcoming weeks."

Huntelaar is impressed with the way that Real Madrid are now playing and believes that he can continue to score goals if the team continue along the same lines.

"We played very well, especially in the first half.," he added. "The whole team played well and scoring is great, but I do not want to stop now."

I know it's early days but after the criticism he got from some people on this forum after he only played 6 games he's done well to net 2 goals. So give him some credit for 3 goals in his first 6/7 games.

he's a good player.

usual suspects blast anyone who doesn't hit the ground running and score a shed load in the first 15 minutes of their debut, but all players need time to settle, both on and off the field.

Errr no. He was criticised before he moved to Real Madrid. Because people watched hiim play over a period of games, not 15 minutes and then judged him.

But no one, afaik, has judged him solely on his time at Madrid.

the first post seems to indicate that's not necessarily the case.

The only things i can remember is people posting how crap he's been. 170 goals in 200 appearances in Dutch league is hardly a poor player

No one doubted is ability to put the ball in the back of the net. But that doesn't make you a good player.

Disagree, but if thats all you look for in a striker then fair enough.

what else did RVN do apart from stick the ball in the net? Yep, if a striker 'only' gets goals, thats fine for me

Tbf, a striker's primary aim is to score goals. If Huntelaar scores 90 goals in 102 matches for Ajax that makes him "good" for me. He does what he's supposed and he does it well.

You watch your La Liga, Keano. What'd you think of him so far?

He can't run, he can't hold the ball up, he has an awful touch, he doesn't have a football brain, he's poor technically. He's just a really poor footballer.

Ramos didn't want him at Spurs, he didn't want him at Real either. Schuster rejected him in the summer too. He's been linked with top clubs for so many years now, and it's taken until for someone to buy him? That someone, a complete idiot (Mijatovic).

for someone who cannot do any of the above, he did well to score those goals. Domestically and internationally.

It was a panic buy as RVN is injured...
