According to the latest reports from Spain, would-be Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has narrowed down his shortlist for star summer signings to seven names.

The ex-Merengues supremo is an odds-on favourite to regain control at the Bernabeu, given that no-one else has thrown their hat into the ring as of yet. In customary fashion, Sport has released a list of players whom Perez is keen to choose from to boost his credentials.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, David Villa and David Silva make up the list of seven superstars whom Perez has his eye on.
Expect a lot of rumours of Real buying these players. Good chance of landing one of the ones from valencia I guess, not sure about the others...

Zinedine Zidane and Jorge Valdano are set for a return to Real Madrid, should Florentino Perez reclaim the presidency.

The ex-supremo is almost certain to regain control and, according to Sport, he is keen to bring two former icons of the Bernabeu with him.

Zidane, of course, enjoyed a golden spell in Madrid, and Perez would hand him a role as his advisor. Valdano, meanwhile, who played for the Merengues before returning some years later as the sporting director, could be set for a return in a similar role.

Might start watching La Liga avidly again...

exactly what I thought when I heard Perez name surface again

I remember when Beckham was rumoured to be leaving and he could have joined Barca. At the time Barca looked a spent force and the rumour was he was gonna go to be part of the revival. Just reminded me that Barca turned things round relatively quickly, and the same can happen with Real Madrid if they can prize away the right players. This could also be an added attraction for players too.

are people forgetting Alonso is a Barca fan? thats a bit like a united player making the move to us! His dad played for Barca and he followed them ever since, if this was a link between Alonso and Barca then I would be worried, from how Alonso has spoken in the past though I sincerly doubt he would want to go there.

Rafa aint a complete idiot (leave the comments please), after the way Xabi has performed he won't want to bring in anyone to replace him, I can personally see a new contract offer coming up for him in the close season

I never knew Alonso's Dad played football. Any good?

To think they paid £20m for Diarra (or Lass as he seems to want to be known) when they could probably have bought Toulalan for a bit more...
