According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Primera Division club Atletico Madrid are preparing an end of season move for Tottenham Hotspur's David Bentley.

The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Spurs starting XI since moving to White Hart Lane from Blackburn Rovers for €16.8 million (£15m) last summer.

Indeed, the 5ft 9in midfielder has not played since making a substitute appearance during the north London club's away fixture at Sunderland on March 7, missing their last seven games.

Apparently, los Colchoneros attempted to sign the nine-time capped England international before he opted to join Tottenham in July 2008.

It is thought that Bentley would welcome a move to the Vicente Calderon. Meanwhile, Spurs would be happy to recoup some of the money they spent on him last summer, especially as it would help finance deals for Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing and Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones.

I can see why they would want David Bentley the was he was at Blackburn but with the way he has played at Spurs it would be a risk.

I have no idea how much he would cost. Sitting on the bench at Spurs though wouldn't be as much as they paid for him.
