Predrag Mijatovic has left Real Madrid by mutual consent a year before his contract was due to run out as the club begin preparations for a presidential election in June.

Los Merengues announced the decision on their official website and stated that the move came after talks had been concluded, with both parties agreeing to the decision.

"The Real Madrid board of directors have reached a mutual agreement with the Director of Football, Pedja Mijatovic, that his contract that was to run until 2010, would be rescinded today," the statement read.

"The board would like to extend its sincere gratitude for the work carried out by Pedja Mijatovic during the past three seasons as the team has won two league titles and the Spanish Super Cup, as well as being runners-up this season, under his guidance.

"Also, Real Madrid and the board would like to wish Mister Mijatovic good luck in both his personal and professional life."

Mijatovic, 40, joined the Real Madrid board after running with Ramon Calderon at the club's presidential elections in 2006 and became the Director of Football.

Calderon resigned in February this year after a vote-rigging scandal at the club's annual assembly, but Mijatovic stayed on under interim chief Vicente Boluda.
