A new era has officially begun at Real Madrid after Florentino Perez was declared the default winner in the club's uncontested presidential elections.

Los Blancos 2-1 defeat at Osasuna on Sunday evening drew the curtains down on the 2008-09 season as well as the eventful Ramon Calderon regime, but the team’s fifth successive loss is certain to be overshadowed by news that Perez has been installed as the supremo for a second stint.

An official statement on the club’s website read, “It is now 00:01 on 1 June 2009, making the deadline to make a bid for the Election to the Presidency of Real Madrid officially over.

“The Electoral Board wishes to announce that following Point 2 in Section E of Article 40 of the club’s Statutes, given that only one bid has been made, D. Florentino Perez has been proclaimed as the new president of Real Madrid.”

Perez, along with his board of directors, will take office at 13:00 CET on Monday in the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu.

AS reports that his first act will be to announce Jorge Valdano as his new sporting director, while it is believed that on Tuesday, he will unveil Manuel Pellegrini as the new coach, replacing Juande Ramos. Later in the week, he is expected to present Kaka as the first superstar signing in his second 'Galactico' tenure.

Wonder who will be the first signing :S

Agent Ernesto Bronzetti has revealed new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has €250 million to spend on transfers this summer.

The Spanish businessman is back in power after no other candidates ran for election. A number of high-profile transfers are expected, and Bronzetti, who has close links with many major clubs and players, believes Perez will spend big this summer.

"Florentino Perez has €250m to spend on a list of players he wants," Bronzetti told ‘ControCampo’ show on the Mediaset network.

"Among these players are [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, Kaka, [Franck] Ribery and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has already signed a contract.

"Of course, he will not be able to get everyone, but some players from the list will be Real Madrid players."

Speculation regarding Kaka has been rife, but the Milan man has stated many times that his intention is to stay in Italy. Ibrahimovic is also keen on remaining at Inter, while Ribery has also been linked to Chelsea. As for Ronaldo, a number of voices have claimed that he will leave Manchester United following their Champions League failure

Wonder if their new manager Pelligrini will get a say in the transfers

They will be linked with every good player around of course. They always are, but especially under Perez

Would be surprised if at least 1 of their main targets is not acquired but I'm not sure which ones they will be.

I wonder if that will have any influence on Ribery. Obviously Zidane is a french legend and may be an idol of Ribery's?

Zinedine Zidane has officially returned to Real Madrid as an advisor to president Florentino Perez, while Jorge Valdano is also back as director general, the club announced on Monday.

It was no secret that the French legend wanted to return to the club if Perez was reinstalled as president, but he has always insisted it would not be in a coaching capacity.

Valdano is back after spells at the Bernabeu as both a player and coach and he looks set to have the main say in the club's transfer dealings in what promises to be a busy summer.

Miguel Pardeza has been named by the new board as sporting director, but his role has yet to be defined publicly and it is not known if he will have any say in the transfer market.

"During their first meeting today, the new Board of Directors presided over by Florentino Perez, approved the code of ethics and behaviour that will govern the conduct of all members of the board. This ethical commitment was accepted and signed by all board members," a statement on the Real Madrid website read.

"Additionally, the board named Fernando Fernandez Tapias as First Vice-President, Eduardo Fernandez de Blas as Second Vice-President and Board Spokesman, and Enrique Sanchez Gonzalez as Board Secretary.

"During the same meeting, the board discussed the first changes to the restructuring of the institution and appointed the new executives. Jorge Valdano will serve as Director General and Presidential Aide. Manuel Redondo will be the Director General of the President's Office.

"Miguel Pardeza is to serve as Sporting Director. Jose Luis Sanchez has been appointed as Director of the Social Area. Javier Lopez Farre is to be the Director of the Legal Advisory Board. And finally, Zinedine Zidane will be the Advisor to the President."

Not a coach role, eh? Maybe easing himself in. But ah well Zizou! :D
