Napoli step up the battle with Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi, warning “he can spend two years on the sidelines and ruin his career.” The popular striker has said an offer from Liverpool was rejected by the club and above all he is angry that the ‘promise’ to improve his wages has not been kept. “Lavezzi can’t say anything, nor can his agents,” slammed President Aurelio De Laurentiis. “A man who signs a contract with an agreed upon length and value, which was already improved within seven months of his arrival, cannot ask for more. “It’s not even as if his performances warranted yet another raise throughout the season.” Lavezzi and the rest of the Napoli squad had a wonderful start to the season and were challenging for Champions League places until a massive dip in form for the final months. “I am surprised by the immaturity of these professionals. It cannot all be based around money, there is also the value of the rapport between people. “I told [director general Pierpaolo] Marino not to say ‘this is football,’ or I’ll get really angry.” “We need a code of ethics for football teams. If Lavezzi continues to dig his heels in, then he will spend two years on the sidelines. “He will not play until his contract expires, we could even get him deferred to the tribunal and he’d ruin his career. “Besides, I repeat that I have never received an official bid from other clubs for Lavezzi.” --------------------------------------------------- About time somebody stands up to these agents and players. It's a great stance to take imo |

It's nearly Christmas

Surely they'd rather cash in on him than losing all value by leaving him out? I don't think Italian clubcs can afford to do that.I don't think a public dressing down is the way to get the best from a player either.

He wants a new contract 5 months after his last one with a pay rise and his agent is touting him around England. Proper order imo |
